QNAP NAS : I'm locked out of Server Settings and can't access libraries anymore

Hi all,

Since yesterday (and for a reason I don’t understand as I didn’t change anything in my set-up) I can’t access my libraries anymore and and I’m looked out of Server settings.
I have the same problem via Web app (via direct IP connection with Wifi) and Android client (both local Wifi and Remote Data access).
Surprisingly, I can still access my libraries (only Films and Series but not Music) from my iPad App (on local network).
I did all the basic stuff (restart services, NAS, install latest server and apps version) but nothing seems to work.
I check the content of the “I am locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in” support section but there is no description about the resolution steps on QNAP NAS platfrom…I know it is Linux based but I have no clue where the plex config. files are stored on the NAS.
Can someone please help me?
Thank you

Server Version#: QNAP NAS Version 4.146.0
Player Version#: Webplayer, Chrome : Version 137.0.7151.104 (Official Build) (64-bit)

You’re describing what sounds like the server becoming Unclaimed.

On QNAP, we need to use SSH to reclaim it.

Here is the tool , with How-To.
It also happens to show how it looks on QNAP

Hi, thanks for sharing.
I’m not able to connect to my NAS using Putty. Can you help?
I entered the NAS local IP. I kept default port 22, but I’m not sure if I should do that because when I login to the NAS via my Laptop, I configured a specific port to reach the NAS Login/Password administration console page.
I didn’t see any option to enter login/password creential onthe putty console, I guess it is needed right?

With default port (22), I get : “Network error : Connection refused” error message
With “custom” port, I get : “Remote side unexpectedely closed network connection” error message

I finally managed to connect (I forgot I had disabled possibility to connect via SSH). Problem is, I am loged in the “/root” directory and when I type “ls”, the only thing I can see is the file “index_default.htm” and nothing else.
Any idea how I can navigate to the “/share/Public” folder?

Progressing, I could execute the script bu tthere is an error while getting new credentials from Plex : “ERROR: Could not get credentials from plex.tv (Error: 60)”
I checked that my VPN was disabled and I also stopped the Firewall on the NAS so I’m not sure what else to do…

I found this log from yesterday (when Server was not able to connect to my libraries), I hope it will help to understand what is the problem :

There is a problem with the QNAP DNS / network configuration.

  1. Check the DNS resolver address. Temporarily set to 8.8.4.4 and 1.1.1.1
  2. Ensure the gateway IP is set to the IP of the modem router
  3. Restart the NAS

Not sure to understand.
When looking at the “Network & Virtual Switch” application configuration on my NAS, I can see that both Gateway and Primary DNS are configured with the IP of my “main” router.
Note that my modem router is acting like a bridge to internet, but it is my “main” router who is serving all clients at home (including the NAS)

Hi Chuck,

Thanks to your help I got it to work again. For some reason I can’t understand, it looks like the DNS of my main router was not configured anymore..I mean blank IP…
I can’t even understand how Internet was working at home without ANY DNS configured…Or maybe it was then taking the modem router DNS by default…But if it was the case, then why would this work for internet on all the household client except this script on the NAS…
Really weird…

We’ve seen where some ISP’s are actively blocking Plex.tv

In your case, the WAN side does have a predefined DNS from the ISP DHCP service.

Thanks for those details.
I have one question, I checked the Gateway configuration pannel on the NAS (same interface you took the screen capture from). I can’t see any “DNS” tab, I only have “IPv4”, “IPv6” and “Security” (see screen capture below).
Any idea why?
