Qnap settings not sticking after nas restart. Have to setup each time

Hi,

I’ve recently added plex media server to my QNAP TS-563. The app center version is v1.13.5.291. I’m currently running the beta v1.15.0. I also tried the current public release. With all versions none of the settings seem to stick. When i restart my NAS or stop plex and restart it wants to setup the server again. Settings like remote access, library scan automatically etc don’t seem to save even though when saving it saves changes have been saved.

I’ve tried:

  • Uninstall Plex
  • Remove cache from .qpkg folder
  • restart
  • install manually

Are you certain the server is signed into your account?

Many of your server settings are actually stored at plex.tv

If you would like,

  1. change & save settings again
  2. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
  3. Attach the ZIP file here.

I will look at them.

Hi,

Yea definitely signed in. Whilst the settings are active (i haven’t restarted NAS or stopped and restarted plex through app centre) i can access the server via iphone app.

Here are the logs. I stopped the plex server and then started. It opened up with setup again and i changed the remote access, library to auto scan.

Would you mind making certain, and leaving, you logs in DEBUG logging.

At one point they were in VERBOSE mode… When in VERBOSE mode, I can only see about 2-3 minutes of elapsed time.

Would you mind restarting PMS itself , from app center, and letting it come up fully.
Wait 60-120 seconds after it completes, then grab the logs again.

Steps i did:

  • Logged out (top right)
  • Shut down from app center
  • Restart from app center
  • Wait for 60-120 seconds.
  • Open and log in
  • SETUP wizard come up again. Went through steps
  • Fix remote access
  • Change library to auto scan
  • Pull logs

Here they are.

According to your logs, all is fine

Try this:

Rename the file named : /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml to /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/.qpkg/PlexMediaServer/Library/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml.old, and then restart OMS from the AppCenter

Does that makes a difference?

No luck unfortunately.

I changed the preferences.xml to .old.

Retarted plex through app centre.

Setup wizard and changed settings.

Retarted plex to check if they stuck. Prompted with setup wizard and settings not there again.

Then please repeat again, and after completing your setup, check the prefs.xml file for a setting named AcceptedEULA="1"

Does that exists?

And adding to self here…

Is AntiVira solution enabled on your QNAP?

Antivirus is on yes

Okay.

Changed the prefs.xml to old again.

check .xml and there is no AcceptedEULA=“1”

Try for a short test and disable it, then repeat

Disabled AV.

.old .xml

changed setttings. resart still not saving and coming up with setup wizard each time

Okay…

Now i can’t find the setting…

BUT. I found something that said sync settings across devices or something like that… I unticked it and now it’s working! I was able to close it down and re-open and it saved everything fine. Inlcuding the .xml details as above.

I also went in to authorised devices and removed some really old devices one being the NAS last seen 3 years ago… so potentially it was picking up on a config file there?

Thanks for the help.
