Qnap TS-253 Pro

Hello, I’m currently running PMS on my PC and looking for NAS to get it working 24/7 not needing my PC to be on for all the time and not use my PC’s SSD storage.

I came up on used listings and found QNAP TS-253 PRO version at fair price of 150euros with 2x2TB HDD’s.

However on PMS NAS compatability list I haven’t found TS-253 PRO just TS-253A and TS-253B versions.

Is it compatible, maybe some of you use it or used it?

You’ve not found it because support for 32 bit Intel CPUs was discontinued by QNAP in the transition from QTS 4.3 → QTS 5.0.
We removed support for 32 bit on QNAP at QNAP’s request.

You will find we support QTS 5.0 and above on 64 bit Intel CPUs
as well as a few 32 bit ARM (which are extremely marginal and soon to be discontinued)

Thank you for reply, ChuckPa!

So I came across these WesterDigital “My Cloud Home” NAS’es, on you copatability spreadsheet it’s ARMv8 (Realtek RTD1195), both Home and Home Duo versions.

But all these new WD’s come with RTD1295PB-CG 1.4 GHz (Quad-Core), it should be fine cause it must be a newer version, but just in case I want confirmation, so i don’t waste my cash on devices that might not be compatible, thanks in advance

It looks like the same compatible ARMv8-A architecture with ‘stuff added on’

It’s a “set top box” CPU used in a NAS ? :see_no_evil:

The CPU is an A53 which is kinda weak for running Plex.

If you’re looking in that price range, as an alternative, may I suggest considering:

QNAP TS-233-US 2-Bay NAS

Specs here:

  1. It has an A-55 ARMv8 (20% faster)
  2. 2GB memory ( vs 1GB )

I find it more “Mainstream Plex NAS” than WD models.

I find it easier to customize and, should you ever need to, backup and recover Plex installations (all the internal server metadata)

HDD compatibility list is here:

(Everything up through 22TB from a variety of manufacturers)
