QNAP TS-332X questions

Hi
I purchased a TS-332X 2 weeks ago and haven’t been able to run PLEX.
I was to install the 1.14.0 version, but I am not sure if it is the right one.
Which version should I install and do I need Codex Pack, if so, which version should I install?
Thank You for your help
Mario

What specifically led you to believe that it supports Plex?

I just briefly reviewed QNAP’s page about it and I didn’t see any mention of Plex there.

Also CodexPack is only used for Qnap’s native applications (HD Station/etc.) which I didn’t see any mention of for this box, but I haven’t looked into it too much to be honest.

I would say this is a good media STORAGE device, but I would likely pair it with something like say an Nvidia Shield TV. Run you PMS on the ShieldTV and have it pull the media from your QNAP. Just take sure and use a hard-wired connection if you are thinking about using 4k videos.

If I may add to MwC’s post here,

Use of the Codex Pack with PMS is strongly discouraged. It changes many things and often conflicts.
Also, it is strongly recommended you create discrete shares for your media types manually (eg. movies, TV, music, and photos) The “Multimedia” share is a software layer which is consistently a problem with Plex.

The Multimedia share also impedes Plex’s performance when adding new media. PMS won’t see your new files until Multimedia adds them… There is no need to wait. PMS will see the instantly if you create a normal share.

The oversight in the NAS Compatibility Guide is mine.
Ths TS-332x is compatible.
It is currently in pending status (the new ARMv8 support) until QA gives final product release approval.

You will want to access the Forum Beta thread here and download the QNAP ARMv8 package.

It says they have been testing since July, we are talking about Plex, not a lunar module. 6 or seven months of testing.

Thank you for your reply and for pointing me in the right direction.
I will try it soon.

Hi
That is exactly what I am doing but with a TS-251, which it is starting to be slow, I spent time researching what to replace it with and picked out the TS-332X, 3 bay, 16 gb ram. Next I wanted to check if it could run PLEX and I came across and article that mentioned Plex was doing test since July.
I figure it has to be ready by now.
I know I don’t need to run PLEX in the unit, however, it is nice to know it is capable.
Thank you
Mario

Mario,
Be advised… In double-checking, there is ambiguity about whether that is ARMv7 or ARMv8.

Both ARMv7 and ARMv8 are available in the link above.

Would you please let me know which package actually works? I will inform QNAP :joy:

It worked, but first I had to shut down the TS-251.
Thank you again for your help
Mario

Which did you end up installing? ARMv8 package?

Thank you. That is the 64-bit ARM package. This is what I expected.

Hi
Again I will ask your advice, on top of PLEX, there is a link to update to 1.150.0659 and now that PLEX is working on my TS-332x, should I update.
I tried link but it does not download. I am not sure how the update work.
Thank you again for your help
