I have a TS-673 that I have installed a MSI GTX 1650 GPU
I have been able to get the GPU to decode but not encode, it seems to be using the CPU.
The CPU runs at nearly 100% but the GPU is only using 20-30%
It would be good to get some load off the CPU.
Has anyone had a similar issue?
Is it just not possible at this stage?
Checked that, I used to get (hw) on decode and encode on my old TS-653B which had integrated intel GPU.
I have just migrated to TS-673 with the same HDD’s so no Plex settings have changed.
QNAP was about to release 4.4.2 to beta a couple weeks ago but a QA test cancelled that. They delayed until the problem(s) could be fixed. I have no update from them.
I would think that somewhere in the QNAP forums are How-To’s to install Nvidia drivers via the SSH command line. As long as they end up where a normal QPKG would end up (or just overwrite what’s there) , my start scripts will be happy.
(I look at where QNAP tells me the drivers are installed and pass that to PMS)
Please someone test it, i was thinking about picking up a TVS-673 if this is supported now. It would be the only reason for me to buy this particular model. Thank you. Any help is much appreciated.
Our office (and lab), being in California, is closed and full lockdown still so I can’t ask anyone to go in and move hardware around else I’d already be on this. Sorry
It should probably be very clearly stated somewhere but,
Due to all the different cards and configurations available, Plex can’t certify any particular card(s). The Nvidia forum is a far better source of information about what their cards can and cannot do.
Sorry for the slow reply, only just got around to testing.
I have 4.4.21270 and Plex 1.19.1.2701. It is encoding and decoding the video with HW but not the audio so there is still some load on the CPU but no where near as much as before.
Forgive me, I am extremely new to using NASs. To confirm: your TS-673 does run the Plex Media Server? Did you have to make any modifications for it to do so? This thread has references to both the TVS-673 and the TS-673, and I wanted to make sure.
I ask because I just bought a TS-673, and after running into some technical difficulties with the Plex Media Server realized that the TS-673 doesn’t appear on Plex’s compatibility list. Your post is the only one I can find that mentions both the TS-673 and Plex in the same breath. I have 3 weeks to return my NAS if it isn’t going to work (plex is the primary reason I bought it), so a response would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Alaskansmallfry, any luck in getting your TV-673 to transcode? I was looking into getting this model for a plex server…as well as the available pci slot to install a GPU. Do you still recommend it or is there another QNAP you would choose?
