Quality problem (720p)

Dear all,

I have a problem sharing my movie library with my friends.
Indeed, my movies are in 1080p quality (at least) and I can play them perfectly in this quality when I am connected on the SAME network as my Synology NAS.
However, when I watch a movie on my NAS via another network, I am limited to 720p quality (even for 4K movies). This problem is the same with my friends who watch my movies on my NAS remotely (with a different network). I subscribed to a 4.99€ subscription but it doesn’t change anything.
Could you please help me ?

Check the bandwidth settings on the server and on the client.

Plex default client settings for remote streaming are 2 Mbps / 720p.

Server:
Settings → Remote Access + Show Advanced.
Verify both Internet Upload Speed and Limit Remote Stream Bitrate are correct.

Client:
Android Mobile is SettingsQualityRemote Streaming Quality. Others should be similar.
Note: Enabling Automatically adjust quality (if available on the client) results in Plex Media Server transcoding the stream. See https://support.plex.tv/articles/115007570148-automatically-adjust-quality-when-streaming/.

I did all the settings and according to the Plex binder (Plex NAS Compatibility - Google Sheets) my DS220+ NAS server should work with 1080p movies but I can’t.
Can you please tell me your transcoder settings?

I’m not sure what you mean by transcoder settings but I would check the quality setting in the client player apps you are using

Its possible the clients are accessing the sever via Relay which has a 2mbps
limit as well https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/

I don’t think it’s a setting problem because when I use my Plex server to watch my movies but via a different network than the one my NAS server is connected to, I have a problem than the one my NAS server is connected to, I have the problem : I am limited to 720p maximum…

I’m not sure what you mean by that. Clients have remote quality setting which is used when on a different network than the server. That remote quality is defaulted to 720p. Client players have a separate setting for when it on the same network as server which is defaulted to maximum

Sorry, my English is not very good.

I just saw that my server said: Not available outside your local network. I can’t activate it.
So I think that’s probably why.

Ok. then it likely was connecting via relay because remote access was not working.
