Server Version#: 1.15.3.876
Player Version#:ios v5.13
Hello, please can someone help. I have been using plex for many years and it has been wonderful
My server is running on a 12 bay QNAP Quad-Core Xeon.
Yesterday i was trying to demonstrate to a client on his nvidia shield using superfast virgin broadband and the quality was embarrassingly poor I then tried on my iphone using 4g and it was the same.
My broadband is 80Mbps down and 20Mbps up.
When i got hone i tested this again and when on my local network it is 100% perfect but the minute I turn of wifi an use 4G it is horrible and I only get 0.7 Mbps SD stream, i can manually force it to 720P HD 2Mbps but this still is no where as good as it use to be (my 4G speed test shows 80-100Mbps)
I have checked the settings on the server and even tried downgrading plex several times even to a dec2017 version without luck.
I have been sharing for a while without issue and can not understand why now this has happened? And if the problem is related to plex or possible since a qnap firmware update?
Any tests i can do or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
So in server settings you don’t have an upload limit or a remote stream limit set? Is auto quality set in the player(s)?
Wow thanks for the superfast reply,
That is correct quality on the server is set to maximum (i also tried 12Mbps 1080p) and trancider is set to Automatic.
when the players are set to auto i seem to get very poor results 0.3-0.7Mbps, I can only manually set it up to 720p 2MBps which improves this a little.
2MBPS is the limit when remote access is not working right and it is going through relay. Do the apps say they have an indirect connection to server when remote? https://support.plex.tv/articles/216766168-accessing-a-server-through-relay/
might have to look at server logs. they should give some indication why it is transcoding to a low quality
Hello and thanks again,
I have just confirmed and there is no double nat problems and the server “sais it is fully accessible outside you network” I have disabled and re-enabled this, rebooted my NAS and Firewall still without luck
I can access plex remotely…
yeah but is that over relay?
Probably best to just look at your logs after playing something back for a bit. The server logs should give info on why it was transcoding and limited to 2mbps
