Question about Commercial Skipping

Hi,

I am returning to PLEX after many years. Can someone point me to how to implement commercial skipping for TV shows that have been recorded with Channels DVR instead of PLEX?

Thanks

No possible. The commercial skip feature is only available on content recorded by Plex DVR.

So how does Comskip work in PLEX playback? I saw comments about people running Comskip manually.

There are two options “Detect Commercials and mark for skip” and “Detect and Delete commercials”.

“Detect Commercials and mark for skip” scans the file using comskip after recording and creates skip points stored in the database. Updated clients read the xml info before playback to present a “Skip Adds” button similar to the “Skip Intro”.

“Detect and Delete commercials” postprocess the file with comskip to scan the file and delete the segments before moving the file to the library.

Thanks, but I am trying to find a way to implement Comskip without using the PLEX DVR.

Get the program and do it manually. https://www.comskip.org/

So, I was one of the lucky ones that had several programs record while ComSkip wasn’t working on their Plex server over the summer. Is there any way to go back and utilize the “Detect Commercials and mark for skip” feature on existing recordings that DID come from Plex? I can’t seem to locate a magic button for that.

I keep them all in their own library if that helps?

No, there is not a way to go back and redo the commercial skip detection. Just like you can’t do the commercial removal after the fact. There is a feature request so maybe one day.
