Question about Plex and Movies

Goodmorning everyone,

My name is Jan-Henk and i have a question to Plex and playing movies on my server. In Plex is it possible to streaming movies. On my local harddrive stand an movie that i have to buy in the Windows Store. My question is why is it not possible to watching this movies to playing on Plex. This file is a MP4 file.

Can you help me with this problem

When you “buy” a movie, you don’t actually buy it. You rent it from your online store under heavy restrictions and a so called DRM - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management - which makes it impossible to play it in any other players than the one your online store has provided for you. If you have a need to play this movie in Plex, there is no other option (legally, that we can talk about on this forum) but to buy the media in question on a physical disc and then rip it yourself.

This movie has a copy protection. This is for movies and games. How is it possible to watching movies on Plex. Can you explain how to doing This. A movie downloaded is no option for me.

I cannot talk about or help you remove the copy right protection on your “rented” movie - that is not allowed as I said. If you add a movie file to a movie library in Plex that has no copy right protection on it it (Plex) will be able to play it without issues.

Please see your support pages too for more information about what Plex is and isn’t (and how it works) - https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200056078-Quick-Start-Guide

Google has good guides on how to take / make a digital copy of your physical Bluray/DVD. Search on tools such as MakeMKV and Handbrake.
