I love plex and after my yearly sub ended I jumped at the holiday discount for lifetime sub. I own ps4&pro that I run plex with along with 2 Samsung tv’s that I use the plex tv app. I’m getting a new tv and looking into a new plex client that I can buy but I want to buy a plex client that like my 2014 Samsung tv plex app I can change the aspect ratio to whatever size I need. Can anyone recommend one everything I looked into you can’t change it. Also I’m curious how come 2014 Samsung tv app allows to change the subs on the fly without reloading along with changing the aspect ratio compared to 2016 which I can’t.
@hisatake415 If you’re comparing Samsung Smart TV plex app to a Playstation 4 Plex app, you have to know that playstation (and xbox) both burn in SRT subtitles to the movie, therefore transcoding the movie rather than direct play/direct stream it.
This is based solely off my personal experience with them. Samsung TV fully supports SRT as an external image only and will direct play.
So back on your question on why changing subtitles the player stops, I’m assuming its because for PS4 when it goes to transcode, the media must be stopped and goes into transcoding mode, while Smart TV doesn’t need to transcode and therefore direct plays it.
And on recommendation on which plex client is best, that is very much personal preference.
What do you mean by changing aspect ratio? of the media?
Have you tried Plex Media Player App? Try downloading it based on what OS you’re using
Like being able to stretch the video to different sizes. When in video my older Samsung plex app allows me to change the aspect ratio
I honestly never experienced any client that can actually change the aspect ratio of a movie. Maybe you’re talking about Samsung’s Aspect Ratio TV Function, which is “Stretch”, “Auto-Wide”, “Zoom” etc…
But if you’re talking about that Samsung can manipulate the Movie’s aspect ratio (like removing the black borders for 4:3 aspect ratio) then I have to call it a miracle ;p. But again I never tested it nor can I deny it as I have no experience with that.
A quick search I found a post about Aspect Ratio for Older Samsung TV, check that out.
Or head over to Aspect Ratio forum and see if you can get an answer there.
Thanks for the help I’m not very good at forums, but on the plex app it’s called aspect mode. I think orca made it. It mite not look as streamline as the newer plex apps but it has such good functionality and for me easier to navigate.
