Question about remote access

I am not quite understanding the purpose of the remote access feature. I have it disabled on my plex however I am still able to access my content out side of my home network. How is that possible if I have remote access disabled?

Hello? Is this posted in the wrong section?

It’s a feature for some apps.

So then what apps connect directly to my server? Or is this an old method of connection and relay just replaced it?

More like a fallback mechanism if remote access isn’t setup and you want to check your server. The stream is very limited, good for music.

if you know the IP address and have things open yes you can access your server remotely if one can access your network remotely.

What Plex remote access does is act as a sort of Dynamic DNS. when you enable remote access it tells plex.tv your IP address and port that should be used to access PMS remotely. When a player app that is signed into by yourself or someone you share with, PLex.tv tells that player what IP address to use. the green dot just means Plex.tv has the IP ad port and when it pinged your server the ping worked

Relay is a fall back if remote access as intended is not working. it relays through our servers and is why it is limited speeds. (generally we know your external IP but the port forwarding is not working.)

If remote access is disabled then it won’t try to relay. However as mentioned above remote access is only like dynamic DNS. If your network is open to the world and/or you/the devices know the specific IP/port needed to access already then it doesn’t need the get the IP/port from plex.tv .so it does not matter if you enable remote access or not. in that case.
