Hi everyone:
Quite intrigued by RasPlex! I currently use a Roku, which I’m quite happy with, but the lack of DirectPlay of MKV files on Roku is disappointing (although not a deal breaker.)
The fact that RasPlex will support the Plex channels upon release (Netflix, HBO Go, etc) means that this really is a viable replacement for Roku-type devices. Very exciting!
That said, will the RasPlex box Direct Play pretty much whatever we throw at it? For example, an MKV rip with an uncompressed DTS HD audio track?
Thanks everyone!
SM
Pretty much, but the raspberry pi will not passthrough HD audio. With DTS HD, it will still passthrough the DTS core. I'm not sure what will happen with Dolby TrueHD. It would likely need to be transcoded by the server. Technically it should be capable to do HD audio passthrough, but needs to be coded in the rpi firmware. This topic is being discussed here:

Most things play fine. We'll have the same support as raspbmc and other RPi media players. For everythnig else, we'll fall back to T/C.
DTS does seem sketchy.
