Good day mates,
I am having some rather basic questions about Atmos. My setup: LG OLED 2017, Denon Receiver, Panasonic UHD Player (@Denon) and a Windows 10 Notebook (@Denon). I am trying to setup my Atmos speakers the best way I can achieve and therefor I was downloading the official trailers from Dolby Labs that include Atmos (always on True HD) and I am having problems and/or I am missing information.
I can see my Denon saying “Atmos” in the display when streaming Netflix@ARC (which is feature of LG 2017+ to pass Atmos@DD+ down the ARC to the receiver).
I would have expected PLEX@LG OLED to take the True HD Atmos and put out a DD+ Atmos stream. Maybe it does but my Receiver does not say “Atmos” and actually the 3D is missing accuracy so I believe that I get DD+ and my receiver just “makes up” some atmos-like 11.1 output that is not Atmos.
Next I tried was taking VLC and MPC-HC on my Windows 10 connected via HDMI @Denon to play the files. Same result. I set up the Windows 10 Dolby Access to output Atmos for Home Theatre via HDMI. But I also only get a diffus sound output and no Atmos in my Denons display.
Now I am wondering. From all the logic my Denon should know correctly what’s provided to it and if there is no “Atmos” in the display there probably isn’t Atmos present in the stream. I could believe that PLEX does not do the trick by now but when Win10 did not output Atmos either I started wondering and now I am here to ask for help.
Can please someone give me a helping hand to understand that situation?
The final solution - to clarify this too - will be using PLEX client on the Windows 10 to stream the full True HD or other HD audio to the receiver. But for the convenience of ease I’d sometimes like to just use the PLEX@LG app to shortly test or demonstrate stuff and I would highly appreciate the Denon to receive Atmos@DD+ like from the Netflix app, too.
Thank you guys in advance!
Cheers,
Thorsten
