Question on moving Plex server files to SSD

I currently have my Plex server files on one of the HDDs on my Synology NAS but have heard that there is a benefit to actually having it on a SSD. I have a SSD hooked up to my NAS via USB but would like to know exactly how to move those files over to the SSD without loosing everything.

Thanks

If you wish to move PMS to an external drive.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Rename the Plex share to have a non-conflicting name (e.g “Plex-HDD”)
  3. Create the new Plex share on the new USB Volume,
  4. Make user plex:users the owner.
  5. Verify DSM will allow management of it on that USB volume.
  6. Using FileStation, Copy everything from Plex-HDD -> Plex
  7. When complete, Uninstall the package. Don’t worry, everything is safe.
  8. Install the package again. Let it find the Plex share and start up.
  9. If everything has gone correctly, your DSM installation will start up again without issue.
  10. Should there be an issue, you only need rename the “Plex-HDD” share -> “Plex” to switch back.
