Question on Non-Class 10 SD Cards

Prior to getting my Pi2 my co-worker had one just sitting at his desk, so I wanted to test our Rasplex tonight to see if this was something for me or not. Was wondering what I should expect from a Class 6 card? What features might be an issue other than possible video playback problems?

When I purchase mine I plan to get a Class-10 but for testing wanted to know if I would see an issue with the 6?

Just wanted to say, first impressions are awesome on Rasplex. Everything I played Direct Played without issue. UI is pretty snappy even with my library size. Using the Black Edition skin and it looks great. Placing my parts orders today :)

Speeds on the RPi don't go much higher than 20MB/s, regardless of what Class of card you're using - http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards#Performance

I've got 32gb Class 6 Samsungs in my RPi2 (RasPlex box) and RPiB+ (wifi extender box) and they work just fine. I don't do media playback from the card, though, as everything's on the network.

Edit to add: It looks like the Samsung that I have are actually a bit of an anomaly in terms of speed, being one of the few Class 6 cards in a sea of 10s. I feel quite good about that purchase now :3

Some manufacturers use a large safety margin to ensure high quality cards, so that a card sold as one class might really belong in a higher class.

Sometimes glitches in the planned supply chain even lead to putting high class chips in low class packages, just to fill a delivery quota.

Those are the only explanations I can think of for successful problem-free use of Class 6 cards with an RPi2 running complex media player software.

Most such usage cases end in failures, cleared up when the user switches to Class 10 cards.

Concluding: I congratulate you on your good luck with those cards. But I won't recommend anyone else to try Class 6 cards.
