Questions abount local media assets

(Not sure it’s not right category to ask those two questions.

I have a tv show, directory structure like this:

tv/Candle.in.the.Tomb.The.Lost.Caverns.2020.WEB-DL.4K.H265.AAC-PuTao/
├── Candle.in.the.Tomb.The.Lost.Caverns.2020.E13.WEB-DL.4K.H265.AAC-PuTao.mp4
├── Candle.in.the.Tomb.The.Lost.Caverns.2020.E14.WEB-DL.4K.H265.AAC-PuTao.mp4
├── Candle.in.the.Tomb.The.Lost.Caverns.2020.E15.WEB-DL.4K.H265.AAC-PuTao.mp4
└── show.jpg

And got two questions on this:

  1. the show.jpg was not shown in players(plex for web) like the screenshot(I manually upload the poster in plex web) below.

  2. can I put some files like show.nfo in the tv show directory, to customize the tv metadata, like names, date on air, descriptions .e.t.c, instead of manually edit them? If I could, what’s the syntax of that file?

TV shows don’t work like that.

I updated tv show directories like this:

But the show.jpg and Season01.jpg still not shown in plex web.

.nfo files are not used by Plex

If .nfo files not used, the only way to update metadata is manually edit it? And where are those information stored, how do I export them if needed?

Your files are still missing the SxxExx season/episode indicators.
Even if your show only has one season, you must include a ‘season’ number.

The best approach for you is to add your TV show to the TheTVDB website. If it’s on there, Plex can fetch the data about the TV show from there.

These are mp4 files, so they could contain embedded metatags which can disturb the matching of Plex and which also can override the information downloaded from TheTVDB.

Do this:

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Perform the Plex Dance with all files of this tv show.

Clean bundles action is now in settings -> troubleshooting.

When I performed actions move files,scan library files,empty trash,clean bundles, the show is still there(can not be played). and I remove the library, clean bundles, readd the library, and things still don’t work.

But I did found a no match for search warning in the log this time:

inspect their guid= from the Plex XML info
if it still contains local instead of thetvdb, then a match was not found.

Is the tv show library pointing to the folder ../tv/?
(it must not point to tv/Candle.in.the.Tomb.The.Lost.Caverns.2020.WEB-DL.4K.H265.AAC-PuTao/ )

If your library language is ‘English’, then your files and folders are OK.
But if you expect a match in ‘Chinese’, you might have to use the chinese title 龙岭迷窟 for at least the folder name.

Have you tried to use ‘Match’ ?

The library language is ‘English’. I am repeating the PlexDance actions, will try fix match after that.

Thank you so much for your patience to help me out this.

I think it’s also related to the messed file names at first and I failed to make this show ‘new’ to plex. I would test this with next show I add to this library.
