Server Version#: 1.21.1.3830
Player Version#: NA
OS: Ubuntu 20.04
CPU: Intel Pentium G4600
I currently run Plex in a docker container and every time an HW transcode is launched the entire server crashes and needs a reboot.
The actual transcode starts and I get GPU utilization in intel_gpu_top.
I’ve followed the directions from this thread and by what I can tell am using the i965 driver but still the crashes keep happening.
Log files attached (Plex Media Server.1.log to see the transcode-induced crash)
(File removed)
Note: Disabling hardware-accelerated video encoding seems to stop the crashes.
I’m not sure how how well a P4600 will work with that.
It may be attempting HW HDR when it shouldn’t.
( – strike that – It’s a KabyLake GPU so should be ok . This will need the transcoder team to look at ) – OR – it’s the darn Ubuntu 16.04 ethernet driver come back to haunt (there have been a lot of regressions with Ubuntu 20.04 lately )
Seems to be a power management problem with Pentium CPUs.
Adding the intel_idle.max_cstate=1 i915.enable_dc=0 kernel parameters seems to have solved my problem!
i915.enable_dc=0 to disable the GPU power management. intel_idle.max_cstate=1 to limit the processor sleep states.
I’ll be testing with more concurrent transcodes but for now it seems stable.
