I am having trouble with TV shows not being added to the Library folder. The show folders are random. It’s a big collection so the first time I notice was when an entire season was missing in Plex, though it was on my computer (all files are labeled correctly). I did a clean reinstall which made the season appear but then other shows and season wouldn’t appear.
I had a professional tech person wipe and re-install the Mac OS on the mini. I installed Plex only to have the problem continue, it’s randomly leaving show folders out during scanning. I’ve now installed Plex twice and that doesn’t seem to help.
Is this a Plex issue or is anyone aware of a fix for this problem?
There is no known issue I am aware of that can cause random folders to get not recognized by Plex. Most of the time this happens, it’s either a Permissions issue, or an organization issue.
Permissions, especially on a Mac, are beyond my knowledge, so let’s start with organization. It’s pretty important to use the official Plex way to organize your media. Even if it appears to work properly one way, there is no guarantee that it will continue to work in the future.
To check organization, I’m guessing that you might have a load of duplicates in your library. To check, go to your library, and change the middle drop down from “TV Shows” to “Episodes”, then the first drop-down from “All” to “Duplicates”. If you do not intentionally have multiple copies of any episode, this filter SHOULD be blank, like in my view:
If you do, then it’s an organization issue, and I will want to check on that. If NOT, well, let’s check organization anyway.
So let’s start by checking a few things. I want to make sure you are using the proper method of file organization. First, do you mind sharing a screenshot of your Library’s “Add Folder” page, so we can see what folder(s) you are targeting?
It’s very important that the contents immediately within that folder, such as in my server’s /media/Videos/TV Shows folder, is the root folder of every show you have:
Are the files on a NAS or directly connected to the server? If they are NOT on a NAS I would like a copy of your server logs and an example of a file/folder that got excluded.
