Random TV shows and movies being downloaded

Hi, I’ve got an ongoing issue which I can’t seem to resolve and would be very grateful if anyone could help me.

I’m running the latest version of Plex on an up to date Synology (a DS214play). Over the past month or so, random TV shows and movies which I’m not downloading keep appearing in my Plex TV and Movie folders. Actual tv shows are being downloaded - the files are saved on the diskstation.

I’ve never shared my Synology with anyone, and I’ve changed my diskstation password, Plex password and VPN password - and nothing seems to stop it. If I right click within my Synology and look at the file information, the ‘Owner’ of the files is attributed to ‘Plex’ (everything I personally download is attributed to ‘admin’). I’ve tried changing the password of the Plex user account to no affect - the only thing that works is removing it’s permissions, but then Plex itself can’t update the library.

I enabled the logs feature within the Synology file manager, but it doesn’t pick up any activity - and the files arn’t being downloaded via the Download Station either as they don’t appear in it - they just seem to appear (sometimes upto 10 a night) into my file system.

Does anyone have any advice or knowledge of what to do? I’ve googled and can’t find much help relating to this exact problem - and after having changed as many passwords and accounts as I can think of I feel I’m running out of options.

Contact Synology Support immediately and make sure ALL your unused firewall ports are closed. Cut off external access until they direct you otherwise.

That sounds like someone is using your Synology and network as a seed point.

The VPN, unless it has a built-in firewall, makes you wide open to password attacks and break-ins.

Disable remote ssh / telnet, Enable Autoblock after 2 tries. Wipe out the Whitelist for anything you find there.

If you’re comfortable wish SSH, after you’ve pulled external access (physically), ssh into it and check for which usernames have been added to /etc/passwd

Most important, get it off the internet and contact Synology.

Did you ever find a cause for this? I’m having the exact same problem

Having the same issue with my pc. Sabnzbd isn’t showing anything downloaded but random shows are being added to my hard drive.

Just figured it out! I have ssplex installed as a channel. It was automatically downloading shows.
