Hi;
is it possibly to have a randomized playlist that only plays “unwatched” items ? i have about 1400 cartoons which i watch asa randomized playlist and i end up seeing a lot of “repeats”. i know the whole issue of the random function has been beaten to death but i wondered if i could “filter” the playlist with only unwatched items. If this has been discussed before, i apologize but i haven’t been able to find a definitive answer. Thanks for your help
You can do that, if you build your playlist a little differently:
In the Web app, go to your tv show library and set it to ‘Episodes’ view mode.
Then activate the ‘Custom Filter’
then create a filter that includes all your cartoons
add a second filter criterium to include only unwatched episodes
Then click on the ‘Add to playlist’ icon and save this list under a new name.
You now have a ‘smart playlist’.
Now call up this playlist in your Plex client and let it play randomly.
The Playlist will automatically shrink as your episodes get played and their ‘watched’ status is set by Plex.
If you have seen all episodes, reset the ‘watched’ status of all the shows back to unwatched.
(This can be done for several whole shows in one sweep, so it is not that laborious.)
Thank you so much !! I saw a forum message that mentioned custom filters and smart playlists but i couldn’t find any detail on the process. one more question is it possible to create a smart playlist that would include two separate playlists and pull from one , then the other , and then back to the original list as long as the lists hold out. What i’m trying to accomplish is to add a “bumper” between the cartoons. I was a huge fan of Boomerang when it first started ( i like the old cartoons) and they always had a bumpers between cartoons. I’ve been able to pull a lot of the original bumpers from YouTube and would like to find a way to insert a random bumper between the random cartoons. I know this is pretty unusual and i might be able to edit the cartoons to include a bumper at the end or beginning but i thought i might ask about a custom solution first. Thanks again for your help.
Nope, that cannot be done.
