Rasp pi plexamp headless makes squealing noise when playing

Windows Server Version#:v.1.40.0.7998-c29d4c0c8
Android Player Version#:v.4.9.5
Plexamp Version#:v.4.9.5

I’ve setup a raspberry pi 3 a+ running 64bit raspberry pi OS with plexamp using the guide on howtohifi, but when I play music casted from plexamp on my TV, PC, or my phone it just makes rythmic squealing noise. The first thing I tried was swapping cables, then swapping the speakers. Next I remembered the raspbian command for an audio test, and I could loudly and clearly hear the robot lady calling out the different audio channels. So the pi is obviously able to send out a clear signal to my speaker.

I assume the headless plexamp needs some further configuration, but I can’t find any specific documentation on this site. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

posting Plexamp logs here (on the Pi at ~/.cache/Plexamp/logs) will give more info about your setup

i have some install and setup notes at link below …

log.zip (785.3 KB)
Alrighty, now that I’ve had time to get back onsite at my parents place, I pulled and zipped up and attached the logs, I think.
I’ll take a look at your setup procedure now, maybe that will illuminate something I’ve done wrong.

which audio output are you using? (looks like it’s currently set to default)

recommend selecting the specific device from the headless browser interface (hostname:32500) … go to settings > playback > audio output

Thanks tgp-2, it was as simple as changing the audio output option to the audio jack. Its working perfectly now, I even ordered a second pi to setup in my Dad’s shop so he can enjoy music from my server there too!
