Raspberry Pi 4 - Client (Rasplex etc)

yea, sad :frowning:

As of this time, there is only LibreElec with the Plex4Kodi Add-in on the RasPi4.

Yea, I think I will switch out the PI with the new Shield TV sometime.

You won’t regret. Having both a Pi 3b+ with Rasplex in one room and the new Nvidia Shield TV Pro, there is no comparison whatsoever as a plex client. Not the same cost either though

You know if it will be able to direct play BD dumps in MKV format?

Yes the Shield can handle this.

Then I think I will try the new model, not the pro, as I wont use it as a server

It has been reported that the small version doesn’t handle large bitrates as well as the Pro.

Will that issue be worked on, or will we be forced to buy Pro version for 4k remux’s?

I wish people would stop hijacking threads. This includes Moderators!
This is a Pi4 thread not a Shield thread.

Plex on a Pi as a server is still around. Plex for Pi as a client is not being developed, it seems, any more and this is what we are upset about, mostly. Especially now that we have a Pi 4 as powerful as it seems to be.

Have any of you tried AndroidTV on Raspi3?

Looks like a hassle, but could be a solution for raspi 4 eventually too, no?

Progress!

AndroidTV (LineageOS 16) on Pi4

Official LineageOS support would be a game changer.

I read on the Rasplex site or Github the reason for no new development is that Plex stopped contributing because they are working on their own solution. Where is this rumored solution?

Seems like LibreElec is the only solution for H265 if you have an RPI4. Will try it out on a PI3 for usability and see if thats workable.

Ok, works fine with a few tweaks. Here is what I did:

  1. Install LibreElec to SD and setup your RPI with it so it boots into Kodi (automatic really).
  2. Install the Plex add-on
  3. Mark Plex add-on as a favorite.
  4. Install Partymode Autostart, under Add-on Services, and configure it to auto start the Plex favorite you made.
  5. Done.
Each reboot, it kicks off a timer at Kodi to start Plex and your there. Now to find out if Plex on Kodi can handle H265 on an RPI4. Anyone done that?

Plex for Raspberry Pi (Embedded) works great on a Raspberry Pi 3+. I don’t see why that shouldn’t work on a Raspberry Pi 4.
I also use RasPlex on a Raspberry Pi Zero W. It’s great for sticking behind a TV. Take the power off the TV’s USB port, a short HDMI cable and a RF remote control and you have got a Plex Player for under £30

Every single response is one I have seen for why Linux will never amount to anything but a fringe hobby operating system and will never be suitable for real enterprise use.

What is “raspberry pi embedded” and where do i find it to download?

I cannot find anywhere where anyone has successfully installed a plex client on Raspberry Pi 3+ and had it work without crashing or major tweaking
