Raspberry Pi connection dropping.

I have had a Raspberry Pi for a couple months now and it worked fine at first. I recently updated my modem to one of the router/modem combos from Xfinity and now I have issues with RasPlex randomly dropping the media server while watching something with a error similar to "Lost media server". I can get the shows to pop up and usually have time to select an episode and it will work for about 3 minutes before it drops and goes back to the menu. I even tried Rasbmc and had similar issues. I have no problem finding wireless networks or connecting to the router. I even bought a brand new wireless adapter (yes it's connected to a powered USB hub) and it is doing the same thing as the old one. I know it's not the router range since it shows a signal strength of at least 50 and I even picked up the signal from the Subway 2 blocks away on my phone!

Does anyone know if there is some kind of setting in this router I can adjust? I believe the router/modem is model Arris TG862 and my Wifi adapter is TP-Link TL-WN722N. Thanks!

Welcome to my world :(

This is probably an issue with the USB WiFi adapter. I had constant dropped connection problems with my PC trying to use USB adapters (despite a strong signal). I tried updating firmware on the router and updating USB drivers, device drivers, etc. Nothing worked. I finally installed an internal WiFi card in my PC and have had zero problems since.

If you're not able to plug directly into the router via ethernet, have you thought about using powerline adapters? I haven't tried it yet, but it's looming in my near future. :-)

Oh no the pc is directly connected… It’s the pi that had a wireless adapter. It worked perfectly fine before this new router. I did more research and it appears I’m not the only who has had weird wireless issues with this router. I’ll experiment with different settings and see if I can fix it.

Ok. It may be a router issue. I don't know, but the point I was trying to make is that USB WiFi adapters are flaky. I switched my router as well, with no luck. Once I switched from a USB adapter to a PCI card, the difference was night and day. I suspect that it's a power supply issue with USB in general, which is why I wondered if you had looked into powerline adapters. If your new router doesn't change the situation, that may be something to look at.

You can always go into the syslog and look for errors but, having experience with arris's firmware (which is bug crazy) and I thought... Flash DD-WRT but, you can not... Most likely it is the wireless on the Arris (tends to be a fine router, just not wirelessly).  I would say run the Arris for all but the pi and pick up a Linksys WRT-54G for $5-10 on craigslist or ebay... Flash DD-WRT... put it on a separate channel (1/6/12).. disable the DHCP... and plug LAN into LAN...

this gives your pi a dedicated stable access method...
