Constant buffering since upgrade?

Hi, I’m experience constant buffering since I upgraded from a Pi B+ to a Pi 2. I’m running it wireless and I got the Pi on the exact same spot as before, so I don’t think it has something to do with the connection between the Pi and the router…

Anyone got a clue why it might be doing this?

Could be a power supply/USB cable issue. RPi2 is more sensitive to power requirements, requires at least a 2A power supply. Which version of Rasplex are you running?

I’m running 0.7.0 and using my TV’s USB port as power supply as I like the Pi to boot when I turn on the TV, I’ll try with an external power supply into the a wall socket and see if it makes any difference.

The TV USB port does not really give you enough power for the RPi2.

Another thing, unless the TV sends a clean ‘Shut Down’ signal to the RPi when you power it off (which most don’t) is a good way to corrupt the SD card as it is just removing the power.

RPi’s can be left on 24/7, power consumption is minimal, sources on the internet estimate that the cost is $5 to $10 per year with moderate use.

Okay, I just did a quick check and I believe it’s working better now. Did not play any media for a longer period of time thought. The main problem is that I don’t own 2 wireless keyboards and every time I move the USB stick from the living room to the bedroom I have to reboot the Pi by pulling the cable for the keyboard to start working. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s just easier turning on/off the TV with the controller… oh well, guess it’ll do anyways. ^^

Just watched a short movie on 12 minutes, the problem seems to still be there. Menus also feels slow and freezes sometimes.

Could be a corrupted SD card due to constant unplugging/plugging pier.

Try reflashing the card.

I’ve tried that 3 times :stuck_out_tongue:

Only solution left is to connect via Ethernet.

I believe the problem to be my USB Wi-Fi stick. I noticed I got about 60-80% package loss.

I am seeing a lot of new post about this same issue with the .7.

I actually came on here because I am having the same problem. I took my rpi’s out when we moved and I havent hooked them up in a while, so I decided to update them all to the newest images. I Wish I would have never done it. Every one of them are buffering now. I crindge every time I hear my 4 year old scream across the house “DADDY ITS STOPPING AGAIN!” I am using all of the same class 10 cards in each one, all the same MiPi usb wifi dongles and all of the same power supplies they were using before. So nothing has changed with them except the image.

I turned my overclocking down from High to Moderate and it has helped SOME… but still not enough. I have attached two screenshots. the first is with HIGH overclocking and the second is with Medium. Why would overclocking be killing my wifi? Is it heating up too much?

I’ve tried 3 different Wi-Fi dongles now and one Wi-Fi Bridge… (One of of those you connect to your wifi and then use a cable form the bridge to the Pi). Yet I’m experience he exact same.

I’m starting to believe it might be my SD card that’s broken or something as I got menu lags/freezes as well. I’ll try a different one later on.
