Raspberry Pi For Server?

I currently use an old Windows PC as my server.

Works okay but I wanted to look at reducing the power from the PC.

Someone mentioned Raspberry Pi is a good option.

There seems to be a fair amount of work as I’d be using an external HD and also want to be able to see that same drive over my network from a Windows PC.

I have some 4k content, some HDR but my TV can play all this natively. I’m not sure whether the Pi can serve Dolby Vision files but that doesn’t matter so much.

The question is, what Raspberry Pi should I look at using? Considering I’m looking at low cost to run, but also allowing me to run a couple of different things on it (possibly PiHole) and how much RAM should I look to get with it?

I know more is usually better but would a 4b with 4Gb of ram be plenty for my needs? Or should I just get the latest 5 with 8Gb of ram?

I strongly disagree. It is not a good solution.
I propose you take a look at https://www.plex.tv/blog/plex-pro-week-24-does-your-server-suck-energy/

A blog that’s actually a video?
Hmm.
