Raspberry Pi force audio out to airplay speaker

Hi guys,

is it possible to force the raspberry pi to alswas output audio to an airplay speaker? The reason why i want him to do this is because of my TV has broken internal speakers.

So if i play a movie in Rasplex, the RPi should automatically play the sound through a airplay speaker.

My question: Is there a way to set the audio output to an airplay speaker?

Thank you in advance,

Ed

I've been trying to find out how to do this with PHT on my MBP, I couldn't figure it out there so I doubt its possible with an RasPlex either. Personally I would love it for my Rasberry Pi too.

Rasplex is a port of Plex Home Theater which is a fork of XBMC. The feature for Airplay is included in XBMC and its as a Receiver/Airplay Target.

You can't mirror a display and other such aspects either. This isn't rasplex/RPi specific either.

The audio wouldn't be in sync anyways.

Presumably he's talking about sending the raspi audio output to airplay, which is possible just not with rasplex as it's based on openelec. However, if you didn't use rasplex it should be possible by using pulseaudio with its alsa source and its airplay sink. I'm working on setting upsomething like this with raspbmc, if I get it working I'll post back.

on a macbook pro you can option-click your volume icon and select your airport speakers there. Still need to fix sync manually in plex HT though, not sure if there's a way to automate this

Plex HT can adjust the audio/video sync for you to make it reasonable (within a frame or so) so this isn't a problem.

Is there something new for this topic?

Airplay speakers as output channel would be so nice. My Apple Tv with Plex Connect has not enough Power to handle files with high bit rates :/

My Raspberry 2 is able to but cant steam audio.

Nothing new, Airplay is still currently broken in Plex HT and therefore Rasplex, when Airplay is fixed I doubt whether this functionality would be available.
