I am wanting to use my raspberry pi ( model B ) and plexConnect (using the trailers hack) to play content through my apple tv 3.
I know that the pi does not have sufficient resources to be able to transcode the different video formats to the native formats of the apple tv on the fly, but I was wondering if all the files that I am using on my pi have already been transcoded to the correct native formats of the apple tv then there would be no need for the pi to do any transcoding and the media through plexConnect should play okay ? or is there something that I do not understand about the process.
I am tring to avoid having a media server running 24/7.
any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks
* Do I still need to have the plex server running on my pi for the plexConnect functionality to work?
You need PMS running to access local media or installed channels.
Without PMS PlexConnect can only route the DNS requests to the internet, and probably use external/shared libraries.
Thanks for your reply,
I think I am barking up the wrong tree with a pi solution. I think I am just going to have to fork out the cash and get a dedicated media server and leave the pi for other random projects :)
If the Pi is strong enough to run PMS and PlexConnect and your media is in a format, that AppleTV can play natively, your solution should work I guess.
