So i have the EDIMAX EW-7811UN Wireless USB Adapter, 150 Mbit/s, IEEE802.11b/g/n stick, did “wicd-curses” nothing shown so i did → “P” ->Wirless Interface was empty i entered “wlan0” → “F10” → “R” still no networks are found anyone a idea what i m doing wrong?
Really i could freak out i m to stupid
Are you using F10 to save? I have WPA2 with a passphrase as well an it works fine.
Just a heads up on wireless, we are planning on having a wireless manager built in to PHT that you won't need to drop to command line to use, but its a few weeks away.
Clean install of rc3, I log in as plexuser/rasplex, type: sudo wicd-curses, change the setting to WPA2 Passphrase and press: F10.
i check the setting - and it still listed as WPA Hex.
I'm using one of the older (white) USB Apple keyboards, I have problems with repeating keys (I have to unplug/replug the keyboard after a reboot), maybe F10 isn't mapped to F10?
Repeating keys can indicate that your power supply may not be suitable for the PI, you may want to have a google and check to see if this is a problem.
Thanks for the reply, I’m trying a newer Apple keyboard now…
Also, can we update to the just released rc4 just by running “rasplex-updater” on rc3?
I have a question for one of the devs, is there much performance difference between the 256 and 512 versions of the PI?
Hmm, with the new Apple alu keyboard, I can’t use “F10”, seems it isn’t mapped properly, the repeating keys problem seems to be gone though.
Any way to fix this Dale, so I can save the wicd-curses settings?
RC5 no artwork is showing up!
1080 p plays smooth now
menu you much faster but Im sure that is because the lack of artwork
No channels
Getting better keep it up!!
Cant figure out why no artwork is showing up? anybody?
Yes, rc5 is branded "experimental". Don't worry, artwork will come back : )
For release planning, I want to get one last stable release that has better performance than rc1 but with all the other features of rc2-5.
Then I'm going to merge with the current HEAD of plexht, to pull in new features / fixes, because we're currently forked.
Some real progress has been made on the raspbian and openelec ports, shouldn't be long before we have 3 flavors to choose from.
Try using fn + F10? I'm afraid I don't know of any work arounds. As I have said though, there will be wifi control from the GUI, but not for a while.
The primary concern right now is stablility/performance, wicd is just a bandaid solution for wifi, and won't be included in the final release.
Right now I am seeing better performance on the 512's just because there are times when we overflow the available memory on the 256's.
Raspbmc runs on 256 without overflowing into swap, so we should be able to do that too - it's just a matter of tuning.
If you are looking to buy a pi, i'd go with 512 just to be safe.
great! You must be working on this 24hrs a day lol if you need testers let me know
Great work dale, i’ve been dreaming of plex on the pi. Sent you a donation.

Thank you : ) all donations are appreciated!
Sorry, I haven’t been watching this forum very closely lately.
Just to remind everyone, the latest news (as well as the answers to many of your questions!) can be found at blog.srvthe.net.
You can always PM me with questions, but I prefer to keep Q and A public to keep from repeating myself.
As you may have noticed, rc5 was released today. It’s very stripped down, but a lot quicker. It is the first “experimental” class build.
There are 3 classes of releases now. Stable - what end users should use, unstable - for people who want bleeding edge, and experimental - which is mainly for devs.
RC 6 should come out tomorrow. I plan for it to be quite lean, feature wise. It won’t be very interesting to end users, as it’ll be mostly for debugging and profiling. I’l be adding options to tune the number of threads, and various timeouts, to the “advancedsettings.xml”. This release will be mostly for developers, to figure out what settings work best on the Pi.
There are 2 causes of instability/ poor performance on the Pi right now. The first of which, is that the Pi is a tiny, single core arm processor, and Plex was written for powerful, multicore desktops. So, we have to tune the threading to find the best balance of performance and user experience. The second of which is the PlexHT itself is not particularly stable, and many of the bugs that we see are not exclusive to rasplex.
I personally find the biggest issue right now is loading On deck and Recently added on the home screen. I’ve been looking at the code and I have some ideas on how to improve it.
RC 5, 6, and as many RC’s as it takes after that to get a balanced build will be “experimental”. Once I’m happy with the build, I’ll promote it to unstable, and then probably after a few tweaks, it’ll be the new stable and probably the final v0.1 build.
Then I’ll format the patches i’ve made in a useable way, and merge them with upstream PHT, which will probably destabilize things for a while again.
Thats the development plan.
If you’re looking for a release to use, I highly recommend RC4 (the current unstable at http://rasplex.srvthe.net/rasplex-unstable.img.zip). It’s the one I’ve been using, and I find I like it about as much as I like Plex on Roku. Keep in mind, when starting up with a cold cache (the first launch), rasplex can be very slow. I find it is best to start it for the first time before bed, and let it cache images, etc, over night, or else it may crash or have unpredictable behavior while trying to use it.
The caveat is that autostart is broken in rc4, so you have to fix it by running “sudo chown -R plexuser:plexuser /home/plexuser”.
Stay tuned folks!
If you like the work so far and want to help support rasplex, you can always donate at http://srvthe.net : ). I’v recently set up a flattr for microdonations on my blog as well.
Hi all
Been following this pretty closely, I’ll be donating when I get paid next
Been having a few issues recently. Firstly, every time I turn the Pi off with any of the builds, my card gets corrupted and needs a reimage. This includes pulling the power cord and shutting off via the command line. Secondly, with rc 4 and 5, I’m not able to get it booting at all. Currently it just keeps asking me to enter a runlevel with rc4.
Any ideas?
Edit: And now I’m getting kernel panics on freshly imaged SD Cards too.
Edit 2: It appears that the issue was caused by the Pi getting too hot.
Edit 3: Getting repeated kernel panics again after I pulled the cord on PHT not responding.
Are you changing anything in config.txt? Trying of overclock or change memory split?
Nope, as I said, completely stock image.
I'm on the 512 MB pi as well.
Hey, I just installed plex onto my raspberry and just realised I don’t have a keyboard. Is there a way to login and start it up through ssh?
