As stated, rc8 is experimental, so that's basically a version to try out things and see if some are fixed / improving issues.
doesn't necessary mean that rc8 is better than the other ones :) can be better on some points and worse on others ...
regarding channels, this has not really been in the critical path yet, so i guess they will come in the lsit once playback is steady :)
I also noticed the playback issues, so I did a hotfix which i call 0.1-rc8_b.

So far it seems to be better on playback, it looks like the issues were caused by CPU load. I lowered the load by slightly decreasing the thread pool size, but not enough to delay artwork loading.
is there an archive for the older RC releases? Also, is the application completely run on CPU or can some of it be offloaded to GPU to reduce the CPU load?
There are 2 releases right now, stable(0.1-rc1) and unstable (0.1-rc8_B). I have copies of the other ones, but they have been retired. Why do you want them, and which one?
The skin is run using CPU, but all playback is done using GPU.
Dale, is there a key I can hold down, or something similar, when booting my pi, to prevent raslex from auto-starting?
In 0.1-rc8_b rasplex auto-starts and "Quit" in rasplex doesn't work… I need to enable WiFi before rasplex starts (and I can't ssh as I don't have WiFi).
Can I use rasplex-update to update to this?
Ah, damn, I didn't realize I left it on.
No, afraid not. But i'm currently working on something that should fix playback issues in rc8_b, so I'll disable autostart again in rc-8_c. Sit tight.
No, I will not be supporting using rasplex-update to update to unstable revisions. rasplex-update will only be for stable revisions. Since the current stable is rc1, rasplex-update is moot. Once I have a stable, rasplex-update will be useful.
Hey everyone
Thanks to Dale’s (and many others’) great work, i’ve built a preview raspbian package. I just finished testing it and it worked ok on my device. Interface reasonably responsive and (most importantly) i could watch videos

Great job Anil :)
Can someone compare/explain the differences between the normal rasplex, openelec and raspian builds?
What are the advantages/disadvantages of each etc.?
Thanks again
It is possible to add an option to allow the slide show/high res images in rc8_c? I haven't noticed any performance improvements with low res images/slide show disabled and it would be nice to have the option :)
I see you are ditching the current builds and aiming for openelec. Why not raspbmc? Sam did a great job on that. I’m sure he would help with
A rasplex build
We will eventually have a raspbmc option. Currently, OpenELEC is the best choice because it builds its own cross compiler toolchain, making it VERY fast for development.
The original rasplex (gentoo), the current raspbian port (by Anil), and raspbmc (by Sam Nazarko), all use qemu-binfmt inside a chroot to compile. This is MUCH MUCH MUCH slower than a cross compiler toolchain.
I am a die hard gentoo fan, but when weelkin got the OpenELEC build working, i ditched it without a second thought. It's all about being pragmatic, and swallowing your pride sometimes ;)
Since OpenELEC lets us prototype faster, it is the best choice for testing things out. Once we have it at a point that we like it, we will move for a raspbmc port.
Also, Sams technical (though helpful!) documentation leaves a lot to be desired compared to the OpenELEC community.
The OpenELEC build is awesome, the only issue I’ve found so far is that the Plex iOS remote loses connectivity after a period of time (which is what happened in early versions of the gentoo version). So hopefully that will be fixed once it’s merged with rc8. Keep up the great work!
Also yes, Sam has offered to help. He's a cool dood.
BY THE WAY everyone, rc9 is up, with a simpler installer (based on the raspbmc installer) for OS X and linux users. Sorry windows! Its coming I promise.
You can read about it at http://blog.srvthe.net/archives/560 and find the new install instructions at http://blog.srvthe.net/get-rasplex
Still some bugs, but we will squash them soon enough! Thanks everyone.
If you can spare some change, please donate at http://srvthe.net
Donations are reinvested in improving rasplex.
hmm, rasplex would crash after attempting to enter any menu, and after following Anil’s instructions for Raspbian segfaults.
I’m sure it’s just a cheap SD Card. but either way I am super exited for this.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to yourself and the rest of the guys working hard on this project. It has been fantastic to see the level of progress over the last few weeks and I have been impressed by just how stable and usable some of the releases have been with the project still being in such an early stage of development, a credit to everyone working on the project.
I have just made a donation to the project and will continue to as this develops towards a final release.
Thanks again fo all the hard work put in by the team!
Thanks for your donation, it will be reinvested in the rasplex project.
Make sure you have LD_LIBRARY_HOME and XBMC_HOME set (not sure how Anil has it set up, but on gentoo it is like https://github.com/dalehamel/rasplex-utils/blob/master/usr/bin/plexht
