raspberrypi 2

I loaded up rasplex on my PI2 and I have to say I was disappointed . The interface maybe faster than the PI1, I wouldn't know, the PI2 is my first, but it's a lot slower than I'm used to.

However, I could live with that, maybe, if it weren't for the video stuttering on bluray rips.

I've heard you can 'overclock' the PI, is this advisable and if so how do I do it and what settings should I use?

Kudos

you on wired or wifi?

mine doesn't stutter, but then mines wired.

check you video output and audio output settings if you're wired. it shouldn't stutter.

In addition to JammyB's response, read the other posts and in this release uncheck FFMPEG AVIO (fixed in next release).

Mines wired.

It doesn't stutter on everything, just Blu rips and only now and then, but any stutter at all is game over.

OK Ned, I'll try that today see if it helps.

Cheers,

also, are you getting the little rainbow square in the top right when its stuttering? that means she wants more power!

Thanks but no, I got the right power supply, "She canny take no more powa cap'n"

Hello,

I have just install rasplex on my Pi2 and it works great and smoother than my Pi1 B+. Great thanks to the team.

I just have one problem, the section "recently added" and "on deck" don't appear on the main page. I have tried to fix it in the set up but don't find any option.

Any idea ?

Seriously? This is honestly the most talked about problem in the Rasplex threads. Do a little searching before posting.

You're beginning to sound like NedTheNerd, oh no, that's me!!!!!!!!

Which begs the question why "wait for network" is not the default. ;)

Or why doesn't the deck populate after the network is up if the option is not set. Is this already fixed or is the workaround needed in 0.6.x too? ;)

As has been posted in various topics, this is fixed in the next release.

Sorry, I admit not having tried a lot but I have not seen topic with my problem in the first two pages.

English is not my language, it's a little diffcult for me.

Apologies, I would try a little more next time.

I’m in the same boat as you in some respect, having never used my old B+ for anything but headless audio streamithi my recent Pi 2 purchashbeas led to my first experience with Rasplex. That said, wild the menus aren’t silky smooth by any stretch of the imagination I certainly don’t have any complaints given this is the first iteration of the software with the upgraded hardware in mind. I’d suggest waiting for the imminent release of Rasplex 0.6.x before deciding whether overclocking is needed

I just ordered my RPi2 and can't wait! My #1 goal was to move away from the ROku and its horrible interface. That being said, reading about the audio issues may have dashed that dream.

If HD Audio and DTS Audio convert to PCM then it should play correct surround sound? What are the disadvantages of converting to PCM? My overall goal is keep true surround sound. I am not an audiophile, but simple stereo is unacceptable. Are we stuck with simple Stereo here? Most my movies are either DTS or AAC3. Thanks for the info!

Well I have no idea what everyone was talking about. I have DTS playing perfectly fine on the RP2 5.1 audio is working as expected. My expectations have been completely exceeded in every respect. The interface is snappy. Up and running 0.51.

How stable is Raspberry Pi 2 compared to the original?

My experience (as a betatester for RasPlex) is that the RPi2 is somewhat more stable than the RPi1 in running RasPlex.

I think this is mostly due to two significant factors, those being the doubled RAM size (1GB VS 512MB) and the increased CPU processing power (4 ARMv7 cores VS 1 ARMv6 core).

Because of those two differencies, critical race conditions and RAM shortages problematic for the RPi1 will have far less effect (if any) on the RPi2.

Some users have suggested overclocking the RPi2 and some have asked for suitable overclock parameters to use.

At present the only recommended overclock usage for the RPi2 is NONE AT ALL !!!.

The RPi foundation has not (to my knowledge) published any safe limits for RPi2 overclocking.
They haven’t even confirmed that the same “config.txt” directives still apply for the new model.
That’s not at all obvious, since the new model has four separate CPU cores, and the old ones only had one core.
Some users have tried it anyway, and something does seem to happen, but we have no officially safe limits or methods.

If you still decide to experiment with this, you should be aware that it puts your RPi2 at risk…

So the most sensible thing to do for now is to abstain from overclocking the RPi2.

Hey,

I have a brand new PI2 and I cannot get rasplex to run.

The logo shows up on first power up and the partitioning occurs. Then I hear a beep on the tv and then another and then a black screen. Never gets to the main screen.

I am using the latest installer and the latest 0.5.1 for PI 2.

Any ideas on what’s wrong?

Dan

Beep? I didn't remember the RPi2 having a speaker

The beep is on the tv, but no image after the first logo. Just blank screen

How long did you wait for the boot to complete ?

The very first launch can be VERY slow to complete. You should wait a few minutes before giving up and assuming failure.

The fact that you do see a logo at all means that a lot of stuff is working, so it really should be able to complete the boot.

If you did wait a longish time without success, then we need to consider what it may be that causes it to fail.

One of the many possibilities even include a possible semi-success, only using some video mode your TV set can't display.

(It may sound far-fetched, but this is one of the problems that have occurred for some people.)

Such problems, and a few others, may be possible to fix by changes to the "config.txt" file on the SD card.
