RasPlex 9.9.17 - fixes iOS and android remote issues

We are pleased to release 9.9.17, which *finally* fixes iOS/android remote issues, as well as all known network flooding issues.

We had earlier said that we were hoping there wouldn't be a 9.9.17, but there are a few outstanding issues that we want to fix before we deem the release stable, and push it out to everyone as 0.4.0.

- Moving left or right at the pre-play screen for a TV series is supposed to go to prev/next, but instead causes rasplex to hang
- Trying to change the overscan results in rasplex hanging, though this is less severe as it is ok after a hard reboot, with new overscan preserved.
- There need to me more options associated with the precaching: the ability to disable it on first run, the ability to run it on demand from the gui, and some form of running it in the background. We may end up disabling it until 0.4.1 in order to get 0.4.0 out.

Thanks for your patience everyone! Please confirm that it is working for you on iOS and on android (android may need plexpass for full functionality).

Great job!! Does the “Check for Updates” in the RasPlex settings update 9.9.16 to 9.9.17? Or do I need to pull the SD card out and reinstall?

iOS Plex remote here.

Everything seems to be working fine like it did before this problem. So glad this is back lol goodbye USB keyboard!

Just reflashed SD Card, now have missing posters in all libraries, music library has movie and tv shows posters and music posters.  Can anybody advise. [Edit] Reflashed SD card, still missing posters!

IOS remote still not working. [Edit] Reflashed SD Card - IOS remote now working.

PMS version 0.9.8.18.

Regards.

I'm not convinced the flooding issue is fixed for me. I'm still getting the same symptoms as 9.9.16. I can't even ssh into the rPi while it is started and my router fails to give out any new DHCP addresses.

Is there anything I can run to give you an idea as to what packets it is spewing out? My rPi is a 512MB model B with an Edimax wifi card - I can look up the exact model if needed.

Just updated both my Pi's to 9.9.17, finally have my remote back and can control via my iOS Devices, 9.9.17 is looking good!

Thanks all for the excellent work that goes into these builds it is very much appreciated :)

Can someone please verify if this is an option, or do I have to flash the new version?

Thanks for the great work by the way, it is much appreciated!

Try this:

After start, "left" and select RasPlex Settings. Then "down" to Network. Then "right" and "down" until the advanced network settings section. Then selected wait for network before starting XBMC. Then I hit escape and "left" then "quit". Then restart the unit.

I posted in the bug tracker that this worked for me

Just bought the Rasberry 512.

And must sadly say my money is wasted, crappy 1080P playback, like slideshows , and slow browsing in the categories. :-)

But I will keep following this forum, and hope for the best.

iOS remote didn't work on first boot, shutdown and started up again, works now!

My test using Underworld Awakening (720p DTS, HDMI passthrough, Plex 0.9.8.17 on QNAP 659 Pro+) still runs the cache dry, between 2 and 3 minutes, high bitrate.  Tried setting the network cache to 30% but nothing changes at all, CPU still sits at 100% and the video pauses.

Also tested with audio decode (no passthrough), video is choppy and stops every few seconds.

I don't do any 1080p though (mostly 720p here). While browsing is slow, playback hasn't had any issues (aside from the previous issue of broadcast network spamming). Overclocking helped a bit. I have heard that running from a USB stick helps too -- going to try that myself soon and see how it goes.

Can someone please verify if this is an option, or do I have to flash the new version?

None of the experimental versions (9.9.X) support automatic updating, and probably won't ever. Only stable releases will do that. Don't worry, 0.4.0 is coming soon :)

If are willing to file a bug report https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/wiki/How-to-report-a-bug then i'm pretty confident that we can get you up to snuff. 1080p is working flawlessly for most people, probably has something to do with your network setup.

Please, could you tell me how to set the network cache and audio decode?

I am new with this and don't know how to do it

Hey

I updated to 9.9.17 and everytime I connect it into the mix, QNAP and other plex home theaters it wipes it all out.

The minute I remove the PI business as usual.

Why would this be?

No worries, i'll flash manually, and thanks for the reply!

Works with Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8 also

I’m experiencing a major issue with this version. After a few seconds of playback the device completely hangs. When this happens I can’t even connect with ssh, and a hard reboot is the only option.

Also, some movies are played as music , meaning I get the cover art and the audio is playing, like I tried playing a audio file.

I’d like to help debug this before reverting back to 9.9.16, so please let me know how I can do that

Just reproduced the issue with 9.9.18. Reverting back to 9.9.16.
