This is very, very close to 0.4.0, there's just a couple more fixes we'd like to get in. The more testers we can get to use this build and report bugs (properly!https://github.com/RasPlex/RasPlex/wiki/How-to-report-a-bug, the sooner we can have a stable build.
The main changes in this release from 9.9.18:
-Fixed black cover art
-Fixed prev/next episode at TV show preplay
-Fixed infinite hanging on exiting calibration screen
-Massive GUI speedups, especially on fanouts
-Growing storage partition is disabled by default, but can be enabled with "growstorage" kernel opt in cmdline.txt
-Precaching does not happen automatically, but can be toggled from settings submenu
-Based against PHT 1.0.9, including all upstream changes
I've tested this tonight using two different combinations of SDcard+USB3_stick and with similar config as for RP-9.9.18.
The speed and other improvements are quite nice, and I especially liked that we can now choose when to do the precaching which also means that we can repeat it as/if needed (like after major library additions).
One aspect of the system went worse though, as it now seems almost impossible to terminate the program cleanly for shutdown/reboot.
Almost every time I try to do so the system hangs after clearing the screen, and keeps all its diodes lit while the USB3 drive flashes occasionally showing that some accesses to it still occur.
And this condition just goes on forever (or at least beyond my patience in waiting for it to stop).
This almost never happened for me with RP-9.9.18, so some part of the shutdown procedure has become more prone to failure in RP-9.9.19.
beside my problems with the remote control (i'll write a longer message asking for help) the new version seams slightly faster. Not "huge improvements"... AND it cases the wifi connection to fail after a reboot. Anyone else experiencing this ?
After reflashing SD card with this build, booted OK, but everything was soooo slow, SSH access, Samba access, ten of seconds to move on menu.
First reboot, still slow, decided to rebuild caches, took 2hours, took only 45 minutes on 9.9.16!
Decided before reboot to enable grow storage.
Second reboot, speeded up slightly, tried to play movie, navigation still slower than 0.3.1, after 5 minutes of ‘Please wait…’ movie tried to play, time counter bounced repeatedly between 0.0 and 0.1, but did not play.
Decided before reboot to set my overclock as I have it on 9.9.16 (only moderate settings - no over volt).
Third reboot, pleasantly surprised with speed up, about the same as 9.9.16, tried to play a TV show, after a couple of minutes the system hung.
After 10 minutes waiting decided to reboot one more time.
Fourth reboot, navigation now faster than 9.9.16, went to play movie, three hours later Avatar finished - should have picked a shorter movie, system stable, fast, but now the Rasplex Settings and Build Cache options have disappeared from options on left access from main menu, however I can live without them for now!
A case of ‘if a first you don’t succeed’, try a few reboots, it worked for me. Just glad I have the PiRemote Board fitted, I can shutdown safely and restart the Pi from my remote without having to move from the couch, perfect!
Works well for me. Doesn't fix my one major issue of CEC handshake failing after I switch inputs, but other than that is snappy and works great.
I'd use the PiRemote board as a fix for my problem by just having my Harmony remote reboot the Pi, but then my case wouldn't fit on the Pi anymore. Sigh.

I suppose you don't want to hear this, but I have to tell you that if your side menu commands for the RasPlex settings and Precache controls are gone, then your installed system is corrupted.
It probably was corrupted already in your first boot, when those commands were still present, but corrupted in a way that gives inconsistent results.
With such results I would reflash the card again, and of course double-check that it is a class 10 card (slow cards are prone to write errors when overclocking).
Looks to be greatly improved from 9.9.18. TV Show thumbnails come up as they should, no more black boxes! Definitely a bit more snappy as well running on stock frequency etc.
I can confirm that this version works great for me. Performance is solid and casting from Android app works great. I have some issues though with 1080p playback. Every few seconds it freezes for half a sec. I’ve had this same issue with previous versions as well though. 720p is flawless. Any ideas?
Thanks for your hard work on all this. Looks great, and love the performance improvements.
I'm having problems with certain MPEG2 containers, but I'm not sure if this is the Pi itself or Rasplex. I use media center to record TV. PAL DVB-T in Australia. Rasplex will not play the WTV files. If I remux it to DVRMS, same problem. However if I remux it to TS, hey presto, it works!
It feels like the Pi wants to decode the WTV in software rather than hardware, as maybe it doesn't recognise it or something... I have the codecs installed and verified that they are working correctly.
Any thoughts?
It's not a major drama, as I simply have MCEBuddy set up to automatically convert from WTV to TS, which only takes a few minutes even for a large HD file (converting to MP4 can take hours for HD, which is why I'm trying to avoid it).

Commands disappeared after fourth reboot when system became stable, not bothering reflashing for now, everything works fine.
With respect, I was just sharing an experience, which is what the forums are for, don't treat everyone like a noob, been around IT systems since 1983 and I do know the basic (and even advanced) requirements for a Pi.

Where in all this did I treat anyone as a 'noob' ? I just think you misjudged how serious the symptoms of your RPi system are.
And that can happen to anyone occasionally, regardless of how experienced they may be.
Where I come from it's considered a friendly action to give someone a 'heads-up' about damaged files or filesystems, but I suppose customs differ...

It seems that checking 'hide shutdown and standby' in the skinsettings hides rasplex settings and precaching options aswell - disabling that brings the options again.

That's interesting. This means that there's a bug in how the RasPlex-specific commands were added to the side menu by the porting team.
Btw: It also means that the filesystem of NedtheNerd's SDcard probably isn't damaged after all, like it would be if the commands disappeared 'spontaneously'.

Works like a charm using USB stick and overclocked to 900mhz :)
Another tip is to change the way the menu lists items - change it from wraplist to fixed list to avoid that it repeats items. This would be a rather nice thing to have as a toggle in the default skin though.
I'm just testing this out with a class 10 SDHC and the performance is good but I'd like to get it as good as possible! is there a recommended guide somewhere for overclocking and installing to USB? I've mostly been using Raspbmc the last year or so which has it's own utility for creating a USB install and a plugin for overclocking so I'm not good at DIY!
Also am I missing something when it comes to custom remote buttons for HDMI-CEC? I've used a standard XBMC remote.xml file in the keymaps folder in my Raspbmc install (and also an openelec install on another HTPC) and it fixes some of the quirks of the remote for my Samsung TV. However I've placed it in the keymaps folder (accessed using Samba) on my Rasplex setup and even after multiple reboots it has no effect. Is there any other configuration change I need to make to have Rasplex pick up the remote.xml file?
