Rasplex - Guide to Audio Settings [Updated]

Is there a way I could check audio channels (left right) and swap them if needed using GUI / CLI?

Update to my DTS-Problem:

I could solve the problem with my DTS-Videos by converting the DTS-Streams to AC3 with PopCorn Audio Converter while preserving the DTS-Stream. Interesting is, that after converting and remuxing the Audio-Streams into the MKV, i can play the Video using the DTS-Stream.
So it seems it may have been a problem with the MKV container - but no clue what it really was.

Still using Kodi with plex. Sounds great with my HiFiberry. Still need a fix so I can use Rasplex and change settings for my HiFiberry board, shouldn’t need Kodi. Anybody?

Same here. Still no HiFiberry support?

Hi and thanks for. great guide but I’m not getting what I expect from my setup :frowning:
I’m trying to replace the Samsung Plex app with Rasplex and all works great kept I can only get 2ch audio.

Rasplex HDMI → Samsung TV optical → Onkyo Amp. → 5.1 speakers

yet:
RasPlex:~ # tvservice -a
PCM supported: Max channels: 2, Max samplerate: 48kHz, Max samplesize 24 bits.

Does this indicate that my TV is not passing through the amp’s functionally fully, or is there something wrong somewhere?

I used to connect all devices to amp and then to TV but the apps running in TV had no audio :frowning:

I have a question.
I’ve connected my RasPlex unit to my LG TV. My LG TV is connected to a SPDIF to RCA unit and connected to a 5.1 sound set, mapping it right, I’ve tested with an AC3 file and every channel goes right where it should. The unit also decodes DTS sound and few other formats. However, when I run the command I get that as answer

PCM supported: Max channels: 2, Max samplerate: 192kHz, Max samplesize 24 bits.
AC3 supported: Max channels: 6, Max samplerate: 48kHz, Max rate 640 kb/s.
So, should I still enable the DTS Pasthrough, so it sends it through the cable to the TV and TV to the decoder (passthrough enabled on TV too)? Also, should I still set 2.0 config for PCM even if the TV’s speakers are disabled and everything goes to the 5.1 set? (I’ve made a quick test with the Blue-Ray editions of NGE with 5.1 FLAC audio and Misato’s voice is no where to be found, until I set the config to 2.0, and some voices are really quiet, but are sent to the back speakers).

Most TV’s do not have a DTS license, so cannot output it to other devices. Better to connect your RasPlex unit directly to Amp.

SPDIF supports AC3/DTS surround sound but doesn’t support PCM for more than 2 channels.

Personally I would change your setup back to what you used previously e.g., everything hdmi > onkyo > tv. Keep the optical from tv > onkyo and when using TV apps make sure to change your onkyo input to whatever the optical audio input is. Then you’ll get tv app audio through your receiver and speakers. This is what my setup currently is.

I have a Pi3 running RasPlex connected to my Onkyo TX-NR414 receiver. As I understand it, RasPlex can not passthrough Lossless codecs like DTS-HD MA or TrueHD. I feel that I’m missing out on something when I don’t see the little flags on my Receiver display light up, lol. Is there much of a difference between these codecs and the decoded PCM stream that RasPlex outputs? Is there any plans to allow passthrough for these? RPi4 Maybe?

Hey @Neodude- you’re not missing out on much. If you really want the flags, you’ll probably want to get an Odroid-C2, which will bitstream all of the audio codecs (unsure about DTS:X and Atmos, since I don’t have a capable receiver, but everything else will flag correctly).

If you stick with your Pi3, the LPCM is the same audio as the original DTS-HD MA or TrueHD. The only difference is how the receiver interacts- meaning when your receiver sees a DTS-HD MA signal, it enables a few tweaks that only work with that type of signal. Same thing with TrueHD. These little tweaks don’t alter the sound, so much as “smooth” the sound to be output as intended. For example, Dialogue normalization on a TrueHD track is set at -31dB, vs. -27dB for a pre-encoded master. The actual sound is the same, but the metadata tells the receiver to tweak output levels based on it’s specs…
