Rasplex not auto-finding PMS servers

I put Rasplex on for the first time last night after fixing my old pi. Installation went fine, but it doesn't seem to automatically find my PMS servers.

I have an instance of PMS running on a laptop and a PC, both connected via wifi. The RasPi is connected to the same router by ethernet.

When I installed Plex Home Theatre on either of the computers, both found each other as a server automatically, and I expected Rasplex to do the same, but it didn't. Off the back of another post I found on here I signed up for MyPlex, added my details to Rasplex and it found the laptop no problems. However, after a reboot of the RasPi there are no servers (no entries on the main menu for movies, TV shows etc) again.

I don't think it's necessarily the problem that some have where it's not saving settings, as my MyPlex details were still there after the reboot.

Is there something I should do to force Rasplex to search for, and add servers after a reboot?

Thanks in advance.

When rasplex boots up for the first time, it requires you to sign in to myplex via the pin method. did you get that?

Nope. During the install I opted for the safe/standard/whatever-the-word-is version rather than anything experimental.

The setup asked me to confirm language, network connection etc. I went into settings and saw the option to sign in with MyPlex (which I've never done before on the PC versions). I signed into MyPlex on Rasplex and both PMS servers after that.

After a Rasplex reboot I can see my MyPlex settings are still in there, and still stored, but as I mention above there are no entries for Movies etc.

First of all, I forgot to ask what version are you using.

Secondly, and maybe this is redundant, are you sure your server is correctly connected to myplex?

I'll need to check when I get home, but it's whichever the safe, standard version is at the moment. I know it's not a 9.9x release.

Yes, the server says it's signed into myplex.

Thanks

Sorry, I dunno. I think it's supposed to work as you expect.

But for reference, the upshot is that for Rasplex to find my PMS, I have to be signed into MyPlex on both the servers and Rasplex? It doesn't scan and find PMS servers on the local network without MyPlex?

i don't know why yours isn't finding the pms but yes it's supposed to. i've never had it NOT find my pms running on the same network. ive never used myplex either. are you using the latest experimental? 9.9.20?

No, he's probably using 0.3.0, the latest stable.

Yeah, I'm on stable. I'll try experimental later.

I've got a horrible feeling it's something related to the Sky-supplied router I'm using. It might be my imagination, but I'm sure I read somewhere once that (on their older routers certainly) they have the ethernet and wifi running on effectively different networks. I'm not sure of the technical ins and outs, but it might affect discovery?

certainly would affect it.

i use everything wired so i dont experiment much with the wifi on the pi. it certainly sounds like a funky network issue

The pi is actually the only thing not using wifi, it's got ethernet straight to the router. Oh well, I've posted on another forum to find out if the router is the cause of the problem, and I'll have a play with updating Rasplex to something more beta tonight.

is uPnp or NAT-PMP enabled in your router?

check this link; https://plexapp.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200931138-Troubleshooting-Server-connections

I know uPNP is, I'll check the other and that link out when I get home later, thanks.

Just a quick update.

I got home and checked and I was on 0.3.1. I wiped the card and started again with 9.9.20, and this time things look a lot better. It asked me for my MyPlex pin - which didn't work, so I signed in manually - which did work!

Straight in, both servers seen and found! The interface is also the same as the current Plex Home Theatre too, so I press left at the main menu to get to reboot etc.

The only problem I've got now is that it doesn't seem to be showing thumbnails for ~75% of the films I have on there, does this sound like a cache size issue? I upped it to 10% but I'm not sure what I should be using on an 8GB card.

Thanks for the help folks.

You need to run the precaching option from the menu and then reboot

Cache setting is only for movie playback it will have no incidence on the thumbnails.

You can try precaching, that's one thing, or you can try to check the remaining space on your SD as in 9.9.20, the partitions wont be automatically grown up.

If you find out that you're running low on SD card space, add the growstorage option in config.txt to the bootline this way at next start, your parititions will be extended to the SD card size.

We're looking into making this option a default so that it automatically grows the partition size on boot.
