Rasplex on new 7" Pi Touchscreen

Has anyone tried Rasplex on the new 7" touchscreen?

If this could be made to work with touch it would be nice as a music playback device.

Touch control is unlikely to work, as is mouse control, there are no plans to make this functionality available.

Even if it did you would still have to connect it to amp/speakers to get sound if you want to use it as a music player.

Most people who want a Rasplex music player normally set it up a a headless system and connect to an amp then control it with either an iOS or Android app. I have a couple configured this way.

That’s a shame. At the moment I have a number of O2 Jogglers running Squeezeplay for this purpose. I managed to get Plex installed on them but it didn’t work well and had no touch controls. I think I’ll stick with Squeezeplay for the moment.

The screen works. Though it does not make use of the full screen (2/3rds of it though…) and the touch screen does not work out of the box on it. The resolution is good though.

No sound as well with just headphones plugged in to the audio jack on the pi. Not sure if an amp is needed or not.

The touch screen worked out of box for me the first time I boot rasplex.
I don’t know if it’s because I installed raspbian first and did a sudo upgrade before installing rasplex.

But strange thing, after the third boot the touch screen doesn’t work anymore…

I have the others problem said by mcangeli (no sound, not full screen) but I think it will not be long to fix this.

Unless you are using BerryBoot, installing Rasbian first and updating will not affect a Rasplex install as installing Rasplex completely wipes the SD card before install Rasplex.

I’m new here and really enjoying RasPlex. We have long used the Plex Media Server to distribute media throughout the house, and RasPlex is now one of my favourite toys.

My daughter has a RasPi2 and is running a Hifiberry Amp+ to stream media really well.

Her ideal would be to have the new 7" Touchscreen act as an input device to control the RasPlex.

I believe that there are updates required for the OS (RasPlex) to properly talk to the screen. I have done updates to Raspian Pi’s and the screens work. Could this be done to RasPlex?

Has anyone tried the touch screen with Plex Media Player as it has mouse support?

I run my music players on Rasplex headless and just use the iOS app to control it.

No support for Touchscreen at the moment.

Anyone?

Turns out it won’t work due to min resolution for PMP of 1280x720 :frowning:

The latest PMP removes the 720p minimum

Can anyone test this?

This is the Rasplex forum not PMP, Rasplex does not use any of the technologies of PMP so can’t see the relevance of them removing the 720p minimum, Rasplex goes way lower than that, always has done, see earlier answer regarding touchscreen support for Rasplex. It this question is related to PMP then ask in that sub forum.

Any reasone why there are no plans to support this? Even 1 touch point would be sufficient. I have a whole home audio system with amps that fit in a single-gang junction box, it would be nice to have a 7" touchscreen running software to play music through that particular amp (without paying $1250 for the android based tablet from the manufacturer).
I’d also like to have a touch screen that feeds my projector for selective a movie in my home theater. I think there are some missed opportunities here, and it doesn’t seem too far out of reach.

OpenELEC 6.0’now supports the official Raspberry Pi Touchscreen but nobody on the team has one. Perhaps someone can try with the 1.0.1 release and advise

If anyone wants to make a donation to Rasplex the details are on Rasplex.com.

Cool deal, thanks for the update

Did anyone have success with the 1.0.1 or better release? (have not tried, debating whether to order the touchscreen)

by the way, I now understand @NedtheNerd and others’ insistence on the mobile app for remote control, having just auditioned it with a $70 LG K7 pre-paid-equals-no-pay wifi-preferring smartphone. assuming you keep the cell service turned off, it becomes a wifi remote that’s the same money you would spend on the touchpad, and it can talk to any of your headless players.
