Using an ELO Touchscreen with Raspberry Pi 2 and RasPlex

Ok, so I’m very new to Raspberry Pi and also to RasPlex so you will have to bear with me if I ask daft questions.

My main aim for the Pi was to breath life in to an old ELO Touchscreen thats mounted in my Kitchen wall. I’d read a few places about getting ELO Screens working and figured I had enough info to make it worth giving it a try. So I bought a complete Pi 2 starter kit (right before the Pi 3 was released!! :frowning: ) and have it up and running with Plex. Now I would like to look at getting the touchscreen working.

This page refers to using it without drivers, but the edits it suggests making are in the X11 conf. However RasPlex and OpenElec don’t look to use X.

I also found a debian package here for ARMHF architecture, but the name again suggests it might be for X.

I’m going to have a play and a google then report back on how I get on, but wondered if anyone has already been through the pain, and could give me any pointers?

Kind Regards

@PlasmaPlex

You won’t be able to install any packages, there is no apt or dpkg and the filesystem is SquashFS read only, sorry.

Thanks for the quick reply. In that case is it possible to run Plex under the normal Raspbian OS? Ideally I would like to use the Touchscreen for Internet too, as its in the kitchen we often look up recipes etc. So if I could have both that would be great?

You cannot install Rasplex or any other Plex Client (i.e. Linux PHT) on Raspbian on the RPi, sorry.

Regards

From what I can glean (Although you don’t tell us which model of ELO touchscreen you have) you would be better off getting an HDMI to DVI or VGA adapter and connecting the RPi to that.

I already have one of those and that side of it is working fine, its the actual USB touch input I was looking at drivers for. I realise its probably a dirty word around here but I have switched to Raspbian and Kodi, as that allows me to use the touch screen, media centre app, and the internet with one image. Thanks for the reply though.

There are no touch screen drivers available for RasPlex. You could put in a feature request but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

You might want to check out Kodi. RasPlex and Kodi descended from the same root, so they have a lot in common. RasPlex is (IMHO) a more refined media player but Kodi supports more user customization. I know some Kodi skins support touchscreens, and some of the skins support the PI, but I’m not sure if there’s a single skin that supports both.
