Hey folks, just creating a poll to get some feedback from our users!
Just one question. How will you include the IR Receiver if not with USB ?

Via the GPIO Pins
Also, Pi day is the day we are targeting our RasPlex Beta release.
Should CEC not be included as a control option?

Good point.
http control would be awesome as well...opens up the device for integration with Control4, Crestron, AMX, etc.

Shouldn't be too hard, since I'm pretty sure the iOS app just sends standard UDP datagrams, so we could wrap this pretty easily.

Take a look at the XBMC JSON-RPC (http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=JSON-RPC_API). It's enabled by default.

Definitely prefer to use the XBMC JSON if possible (already a pretty good driver that I've mod'd for Control4). On my RASPlex installation (couple days old), netstat shows that 9090 is listening, but I'm not able to connect. When I pop in a Frodo SD card, no issues. netstat from RASPlex:
The JSON-RPC should listen on 9778. But you shouldn’t use hardcoded ports either. Try to resolve the service via Bonjour/mDNS/Zeroconf.
I am new to raspberry pi and plex. I have however setup my iMac as the Plex server and the rpi as the client.
What are my current options on controlling plex without wired/wireless keyboard.
Are there any options where I don't have to purchase additional hardware to control plex on rpi?
The whole point of using the raspberry pi as plex client is to cost less after all.

There are many options - almost all Network based and require some computing device ...
- IR-Remote: you just need a remote of your choice and purchase a receiver for ~$1 (some technical knowledge needed)
- XBMC/Plex apps for Android/iOS
- There should be several remote tools out there which just use the XBMC event-API
Where do I purchase an USB IR receiver for ~$1. Ones I found online are quite expensive.
Which iOS app would you recommend?
Thanks so much.

- iOS App: Plex or XBMC Remote
- The IR receiver for $1 is not USB - it's GPIO and looks like this http://forum.stmlabs.com/showthread.php?tid=5545

hi,
this may be a stupid question, but ...
do you need a keyboard to set-up rasplex ? or can you ssh in and do all remotely ?

Hi!
I have never attached a keyboard nor have I ever had to log on using SSH. And I'm running rasplex just fine at this moment!
So, the answer is no. You do not need a keyboard.

you fail to ask the most important questions about RasPlex like:
How well it functions? it does not
How easy is it to use? simple to configure, but worthless as it fails to play any media.
Performance? horrid, taking 1+min to enter a media folder is unusable compared with its competition RaspBmc running XMBC as the UI

then you make something wrong ;) my setup works perfect

Mine works great, controlled via CEC, powered from the Tv's USB port. Only issue I get is with 'some' HD material, but I think that is to do with the audio causing problems.
Very impressed for a beta with not many people working on it.
