Having a play trying out rasplex. got it setup using Win32Discimager and the latest beta release 0.3.1 image file. Networked with wifi 150 mbps nano usb adapter. Connected to a Samsung - just want to compare Samsung Plex App, Roku Plex and RARflix apps and now Rasplex.
Found that the samsung remote works - but only up to a point. just the basics and I struggle not knowing how to exit to the next level up as the return key does not always work at every menu position. Did some google searches on the forum and found references to the XBMC Remote app so I have that now on the iPad but again I can do things but not really know how to really navigate.
So I would like to know where can I read about how to use these two remotes with Rasplex or maybe a better option.
and this refers to some hardware pins and if on newer releases refers to some config file setup but only a few buttons and does not tell me if this would give me full remote control and what can be controlled eg music/slideshow/options ....
so i am probably on the wrong wiki
and i do not understand what you mean by
'The best app remote option is the official plex app'
what app are we talking about? PC app? mobile app?
What I am after is a definition of everything that can be controlled through a remote control device or app and what that device or app is
If I do need to edit a config file in the linux environment for rasplex then fine, but i would need to know which keys from my samsung tv remote to define and what the full set of controllable options / selections are.
Right now for raspbmc I am using my logitech harmony one tv remote which mimics my lg tv remote. As you stated, not all the buttons work by default. I know for raspbmc there is a file call remote.xml you can edit and tell it what you want to do with each cec supported buttons on your remote. Read this post. I started it. If you have any question about it feel free to ask me. If i am not mistaken i believe you had a samsung tv and the red, green, blue, yellow buttons can be used to do whatever functions you like in rapsbmc. If i were you i would do some googling to see if rasplex is the same way. I can't think of why they wouldn't.
The official plex app is the plex iOS or Android app sold by plex. Go to plexapp.com. It has a remote function.

Oh ! I already had these purchased. and Now I also purchased Plex Constellation recommended by breezytm.
I am also after the documentation of what one can do with a remote - what functions are available at what level and in what context. The remotes are not all very intuitive and at the moment trying them out, they are not very responsive to me.
Thank you very much - guys. Having spent so much time so far on Plex to get it to work for me, I am most likely not going to want to go back to a day 1 position again by adopting Rasplex and then going after one hurdle after another trying to resolve each one to get to the point I achieved already through other products.
At this moment Roku's with RARflix looking a best bet for what I want to do at this moment in time
Hi sa2000 i guess you were trying to use CEC aka Anynet? can't say i've tried it but setting up GPIO is very easy if you have a Logitech remote and IR receiver, you should follow this guide http://aron.ws/projects/lirc_rpi/ for ir and wiring but don't worry about setup as it auto configures if you use a MCE remote profile.
I abandoned Rasplex for XBMC with a few good plugins to make it like Plex that i can explain if needed. Good luck
go to raspbmc and give that a try. Also try plexbmc. Raspbmc works great for me. I have no issues or worries when it comes to playing a movie as i used to when using plex with the samsung app, which was a great app by the way. I saw some people installed plexbmc and seems to be thrilled with it. Don't give up yet. Try new things. The roku app is not all that great. It's been buffering for me like crazy lately. I didn't change anything in my setup and i have no clue why. I must admit i didn't try throubleshooting the buffering. I just purchased another raspberry pi to replace that roku box. I've done enough throubleshooting with plex.

Thanks - I have started earlier today. Got the raspbmc install. Put on sdcard executing the setup, exe in raspbmcwin32.zip. These is a message at the end that says the Raspberry Pi needs to have a wired LAN connection before putting the SD Card and USB stick in. Is this really necessary? I have wifi usb installed on my raspberry pi. Should i be seeing anything on the TV screen connected via HDMI when i switch on the Pi with the SD Card in? At the it does not do anything.

I honestly don't know. I never did a wifi install since i always try to wire every streaming devices to prevent buffering. Browse this forum for solutions to all your problems. Great community. Can't go wrong.
In second thought, it just might need to wired LAN connection since the installer contacts their server to download the image down to the pi. I think the wireless usb stick will only gets install after the OS is installed. I mean where would the wireless usb stick gets its driver from without an OS right?

The installer has a option to enter your wireless settings when settings up sd card
