I bought my first Raspberry Pi today and put Rasplex on it. It works great and everything but I feel that I need a remote. I don't think it's convenient to always having to use either my iPhone or iPad to airplay from the iOS Plex app on to the Rasplex. I've already read about GPIO and IR remotes and that would definitely solve my problem, it is a pain to get one as I live in a country where absolutely nothing is available (Raspberry Pi can be bought at one store in the whole country and costs three times as much as in the US). Is there any other way? Any app on the App Store (Raspberry Pi remote or even XBMC remote apps) that can be used with Rasplex?
Have you tried enabling CEC on your TV?
I can use my Samsung TV remote with my Rasplex.
I just had to enable CEC in my tv menu.
I’m using CEC as well with my Toshiba TV. Each tv manufacturer uses a different name for it, like Regza-link in the case of my toshiba. Look for something with a goofy -link name and turn it on. Might have to turn TV off and on again before it will pick up rasplex.

So CEC was already enabled on my Thomson (it was called EasyLink) and when I turn on Rasplex it actually says "Pulse Eight CEC adapter", but my remote however doesn't work. Do I need to enable it somehow within the Rasplex preferences or should it be available from the beginning?
It should work automatically. if you rebooted your Pi already, reboot your TV and it should work. That's my experience.
are you leaving your pi on all the time, or turning it off and on. For me it seems it works best if the pi is turned on first and finishes booting, and then you turn your tv on.

I don't seem to be able to get this to work. Is there any remote app that I can use to control Rasplex?
I found it out myself, The official XBMC remote and Sybu XBMC remote for iPhone both work perfectly.

Logitech dinovo mini here, simply put the dongle on the rasp and use a full keyboard.
How about the Plex app? It should be able to control the Pi with RasPlex on it.
I have an old firefly mini. All the important buttons work except the 'back' button, meaning I can dig down into menus but can't get back out! How can I get that button mapped? Please keep in mind that I am a complete Linux noob. Thanks in advance.
This is the only thing holding me back from buying a Pi and going with RasPlex. I need a real remote. I can't count on my wife to use her phone as a remote, and there's just something about the touch and feel where I don't have to look down at my phone to press a button.
Looking good so far though!

I believe you would have to edit the lirc config which can be very confusing, there's a good guide in the xbmc wiki.

Edit* more relevant - http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Guide_To_Test_a_Remote_and_Remap_Keys
A much easier solution would be to buy the Flirc dongle, which makes the whole process a lot easier and you can use any remote and you don’t need a direct line of sight to the dongle, I haven't tested it out yet but it's on my my to buy list :)
Thanks sunnytilt, I'll try the config file. I want to get better at this anyway :)
