rasplex versus ipad w/HDMI

Hi,

 

I have stumbled on this project and it looks *really* interesting.

 

While mulling through this and justifying a decision, I am trying to find the benefits of rasplex versus a simple ipad to HDMI cable to tv. What I have so far is,

 

1. remote - can use IOS to remote control.

2. 'wired' network performance, though this will be a bit of work for me

3. RPi is cool.

4. Plex is very cool.

5. potentially higher quality output ??? (found mixed messages on this..)

 

 

Anything I have missed ?

 

I am a low frequency user so an iPad being hobbled by cable is not really a deal breaker for me.

Re 1, IOS devices can also be remote controlled now.

just as an update to this, I yesterday tried out the Ipad to HDMI converter cable. Works fine.

One major disadvantage is the letterboxing/overscan when using Plex on iOS. Native apps work perfectly. I found a few comments on it, hopefully a fix can be added at some point.
