“Recently Added Movies” and “Recently Added TV” disappeared from Home tab

Sorry, I don’t know what that means.

There is a Plex Player app for Windows 7.
There is also the web app, the link you sent.
On Windows I use the app unless I am forced to do things like this and have to use the webapp.

On the TV I use the Chromecast with Google TV app.
In the bedroom I use the XboxOne app.

4 apps, 3 devices.

Both the Windows app and the webapp have sidebars like every other version.
The REORDER option lets you drag and drop with the mouse the order the sidebar is in.
On the Windows app the drag and drop doesn’t work. The webapp the drag and drop works fine.

There are actually more than 3. Or even 5, if you count old and deprecated ones as well.

  • The hosted web app: https://app.plex.tv/
  • The local web app: http://private-ip-of-your-server:32400/web
  • Plex for Windows/Mac (recommended for desktop systems with mouse)
  • Plex HTPC (new, recommended for HTPC system with remote control support)
  • Plex Media Player (almost deprecated)
  • Plex for Windows from the Microsoft App Store (sometimes called “UWP app”, deprecated)
  • Plex Home Theater (deprecated a long time ago and mostly defunct now)

Which one are you using?

Plex Media Player.

It was working fine till the last update which killed Drag and Drop.

Never had a problem till then.
Well, there were server side problems but they’ve all been fixed with updates to the server.
The app never had problems till now.

Plex Media Player has been feature-frozen a long time ago and won’t be getting new features anymore.

It had an update about a month ago. Thats when the Drag and Drop problem started I’m guessing.

Then what you are using is not “Plex Media Player”. The Last PMP update was a year ago: Plex Media Player - #105 by pcalves

Please take a look into the configuration menu and report the version numbers shown there, or maybe even make a screenshot.

Plex Media Player
Version 4.29.2

As I said: Plex Media Player is feature frozen since over one year now. It won’t get updates to deal with the new way of managing the home page.

It got an update about a month ago so its not frozen.

I explained to you above that this cannot possibly be the case.

Addendum: the version number 4.29.2 is not the version of the PMP, but the version of the web app which has been integrated into this release of PMP.
As you can see here Plex Web - #312 by chrishoage it must have been made around one year ago.
So if you installed an update just one month ago, then it probably was caused by you not updating PMP for almost a year.

How about this one then.

Plex for Windows
Version 1.29.0.1885-67668ec3

I know whats going on, this is the last Windows 7 version thats why its got bugs and not being updated to the latest 1.31.1 version as thats Windows 10 only.

As it states, this is “Plex for Windows”, not “Plex Media Player”.
Windows 7 should not be used anymore on any system which is connected to the Internet.

That stupid comment shows your lack of knowledge in things.

Should we close every single ATM from all the worlds banks as they still run Windows XP.
What about the smaller banks where the really old still working ATMs even run older OS’s like Windows 95?

I have devices in my PC and software that DOESN’T run on Windows 10 so I cant upgrade.
I have a few server apps which cant and wont run on Win10 so I am stuck on Win7.
I also have software that is obsolete which I still use so if I do upgrade I will loose that and loose access to lots of things.
As long as I have protection my PC is safe. Im probably less likely to get a virus on my Win7 PC than you are on your PC. When was the last time you had a virus? This year? Its been about 10 years since I’ve seen a virus on this, and I think then it was the virus I made.
An actual attack on my PC was a very long time ago. Its still running the same Windows 7 I’ve had for the last 10 or 15 years? I forgot how long its been now.
My Surface Pro 2 had Windows 10 installed, needed to be reinstalled every year as its so buggy.

So, no, Windows 7 is HEAPS better than Windows 10. Its more stable, lets you use a lot more software and hardware and has the most compatibility of any Windows OSs.
Just because its old doesn’t mean its not good. LOTS of companies are staying on Windows 7. LOTS of devices are running Windows 7 and cant be upgraded. Its still out there, it will always be out there. Its probably the best Windows version ever.

Exact same issue for me here. I had 3d movie library set to Exclude from home screen in the left hand list of libraries, and once I switched all the rest of my movie libraries to be included on home screen and global search, only then did the recently added movies show up on my home screen.

Thanks for finding this!

2 Ways

  1. Reset home customization on your client device.
That should fix the problem but it’s only temporary give or take several days before it reverts back…

  2. If you don’t want the clutter of all your library’s in front

here’s what you do!

  1. Go onto your Plex server

  2. Go to settings

  3. Very bottom scroll to manage, go in the libraries…

  4. Scroll to the very bottom until you see “merge recently added items” & uncheck the box…

  5. Next, choose the Library you do not want on your home screen through your PLEX client device…

  6. As an example (Action Films) click on “manage recommendations” In the middle of your categories, you will see (home) under “recently added movies” and (uncheck box)…

This library will not be available in your home recommendations but it will still be assessable on your device…

  1. In order to get the right customizations you’d like you’ll have to do this for every library that you do not want displayed…

It’s tedious, but really the only way right now as of June 2021

Hope this helps

After reading this thread – I came across this in Settings > Manage > Libraries

That seems to have solved my problem!

Maybe it will help others?

That will merge Recently Added lists from multiple libraries… Unfortunately, if you have Other Videos - it removes those from the Home Screen.

About a half dozen PMS releases since bug discovery - just updated to:
1.23.3.4707
Bug still in charge.

I just added my remaining Other Videos library and nothing vanished.
