Background and settings, client:
Plex Version 1.2.7.2987 running on Synology NAS (This is not a version 2987 specific issue but I can’t say when it started/when I first noticed). Plex web (several computers), Plex for Android. Having searched on google and here on the forums I couldn’t find an existing discussion for this issue.
I have several music category libraries but Only the category ‘Music (Merged)’ has the following option set:
Include in dashboard
Include content from this library in On Deck, Recently Added, and global slideshows.
For example, the song plex.mp3 exists in two libraries:
‘Single tracks’ and ‘Music (Merged)’
Issue:
As I tried to fit into the title, Recently added works just fine so far as to by what is actually presented in the ‘Recently added’ main window (reached by clicking the heading title in the ‘home window’ in Plex web). There are no dupes to be found there. Clicking on the album art (not the play button) for a track I know is in both of the libraries above, displays only the track in ‘Music (Merged)’ as expected.
However, if I click the Play (all) button or the Add to playlist button, dupes are added to the play queue/generated in the playlist. Playing both files in a dupe set, I can clearly see one is the expected located in Music (Merged) and the other from Single tracks. Same behavior no matter the client used.
! (although in Plex for Android I can’t enter a separate full screen Recently added window nor play all/add to playlist, but there are no dupes in the category displayed in ‘Home’)
Expected result:
Only the files displayed in ‘Recently added’ to be added to play queue/playlist.
For example, when at work today I fired up Plex web, looking to play the new music bought the last few weeks. Clicked recently added music → play all. Again, I noticed some tracks playing several times. The ones I noticed were music from the Single tracks category, leading me to this little write up.
Attempted fixes
I have removed all files from \Single tracks in my NAS, waited for plex to re-scan both libraries and emptied trash. Re-set the ‘Include in dashboard’ option (unticked/off) for the offending category; Single tracks. After this I added the Single tracks back and when Plex was done scanning there was no change: recently added looks fine but the play button/queue (bottom right: “Up next”) and playlist generator picks up tracks from Single tracks and Music (Merged).
What I would love to see in a future version of Plex:
That only the files displayed in the separate ‘Recently added’ window are to be added to the play queue/playlist when using the play and playlist buttons in that window. Or an option to exclude duplicates in the play queue\playlist.
