Stop auto-merge of same video files with different resolution

Hi Team,

I’m using plex to manage my video files, and I have the same video twice but in 2 different resolutions.

It’s getting quite confusing when I put file number 2 in my plex folder, and it doesn’t appear in recently added because the file technically already exists. It just merges the new file with the existing file.

When I add a video file of a film that already exists, I want it to be seen in ‘recently added’, and be a seperate entry in ‘All Movies’.

I’m using recently added to make sure the new files are titled correctly.

Is this possible?

I know I can split the titles, but that means finding the file in my collection, manually splitting, and it still won’t appear in recently added.

I’m using the standard plex configuration, with all videos inside a ‘video’ folder (as per plex guidelines).

Thanks.

If the film already exists, it won’t show up in ‘recently added’ because it was previously added at an earlier time.

The little ‘2’ (or 3 or 4 or …) tells you how many copies you have. If you click on ‘info’ for that title, it will list all the locations it found this title.

What you might need as well, since you’re having PMS be a central part of media management, is the WebTools plug-in (Channels forum). It will perform a number of media management features for you. One of its best features is FindMedia. It checks for 1) Media in the database but file is missing and 2) Media not in the database but file has been found. If you want to verify if media you added is in the database and properly matched, this takes all the pain and guesswork out of it.

There is not a way to stop the auto merge readers. There is a duplicate filter to identify any movies with the 2+.

Let me echo what MovieFan.Plex is saying… It is very easy to use the ‘Duplicates’ filter to find all multi-version files.

I want to see that little “2” or “3” and not have the same movie displayed 2 or 3 times in my collection. Of course I have well over 2100 movies, so finding things can get a bit hard with the scrolling mass. If/When we ever get collections it’s going to change things a bit…

@MikeG6.5 AMEN. Very frustrating when the same movie shows a duplicate entry and not merged as designed. With over 4700 movies, visually scanning over them to “see” duplicate entries is a waste of time.
