Recently Added not right

I moved over from Volumio to Plex recently. Music junkie with Lifetime pass. No regrets. However an annoyance is “recently added” list, which I really want to be based on the very latest albums added to my server. Every time I have to manually scan (because Plex Server sometimes does not detect new files on my NAS) the list is wrongly ordered. I assume the display order is based on alphabetical order the files are scanned. I would ideally like the display order to be based when the files were added to my NAS - not the order Plex Server scans them. Any suggestions to fix this gratefully received.

Server Version#: 4.82.1 / WIndows 10
Player Version#: Plexamp 4.2.2 / Mac, iPhone, iPad

Is there something with using the file meta-data instead of the Plex database? A setting I can change, thanks.

This behaviour is a sign of either:

  • the server sometimes loses correct date and time (usually after being powered off). Make sure it has internet connectivity while booting up, so it can fetch proper date and time using ntp
  • the NAS is spinning down its hard drives when idle. Then upon access, the drives don’t spin up fast enough so the first requests of Plex server are returned with “media not available”. If you now also have this preference in Plex enabled “Settings- Server - Library - Empty trash automatically after every scan” then this will lead to these items being removed. And then getting re-added at next scan.
So, either disable this preference or don’t let your media storage spin down the drives.

Thanks @OttoKerner - is there a way to get back the previous (correct) order for Recently Added, i.e. when I added the rips to my NAS?

There’s a slight chance if you restore one of the database backups. But only if they reach back far enough. Restore a Database Backed Up via 'Scheduled Tasks' | Plex Support
