Every time a new movie or TV show is added, it will appear at the front of the recently added list, but then within a day or so previously added media will bump back up to the top in alphabetical order. I have checked the file dates, and none of the files that move to the front have updated date modified. My system does a remote backup with GoodSync every night, and I am wondering if that is somehow toggling this? The local data that used in the library that keeps refreshing is on a Synology NAS. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Do you have “Empty Trash Automatically” set in the server settings? If you do, Plex will automatically delete the items in the library if it temporarily loses contact with a drive. When it regains contact with the drive(s), it will then re-add the items (probably in alphabetical order)
This could be caused by the remote backup, someone else will have to jump in to give you more info.
This could be the problem. That feature was enabled, and my router resets each night which would cause a momentary disconnect. I have disabled it and will monitor to see if that fixes it. Is there a way to set a schedule to empty recycling periodically incase I upgrade some of the older files to higher quality? Or is that unnecessary?
I don’t know of any method to schedule an empty trash command.
If the files have the exactly same name, folder name and location , I don’t think you would have to do anything. Plex should pick it up as an updated file, and it shouldn’t affect the “recently added” or watch history, etc. If the name varies even a little, it will pick up the new copy as a duplicate. You could delete the old copy through the web app, or delete it ffrom the file system and empty trash manually.
EDIT: if you delete the original file and empty trash before you add the upgraded version, it will show up as a new addition to the library. If you don’t want that to happen, add the upgraded version first.
