I’m not sure what happened, but recently trying to open a movie on plex app on ATV 4K or PS5 is very very slow. And even movies with AC35.1, EAC5.1 show up as Stereo on my receiver. This has never happened before. Just started happening the last few weeks. The only thing that I did differently within that time frame was upate my ATV 4k to iOS 18,3, and also update my PS5 system.
I have my plex media server running on my synology nas (DSM 6) and I have tried shutting it down, restarting it, and even update the pms to the latest version. And none of those have fixed the issue with extreme slow playback of movies.
However, movies play fine without any lag or issues running the plex app on my macbook pro m1 though. I’m not sure where the issue lies. Why does it work fine on my macbook but not on the ATV and PS5? My macbook is using wifi, while the ATV and PS5 are all wired directly through ethernet. It seems to me like plex is having some sort of problem with the audio portion of the stream when streaming to the ATV 4K/PS5.
Update: I think I figured out what the problem is. For some reason when I slide down on the apple remote to show the playback menu, it shows that it’s trying to play the movie at 480p, which makes plex transcode the media. But why is it automatically selecting that? It use to play at original quality and never transcoded. I have multiple ATV’s in my house, and on each and every one of them it’s doing the same thing. I never changed that option and have always set it to play at original quality.
I am using the testflight version of plex app on my iOS and tvOS devices. Not sure if those versions changes something, but again the plex app on my PS5 is using the regular version.
