Recommended for 3 library's showing Something went wrong An unexpected error occurred

Please explain.

i do not want merge enabled. should i have it?

Can you try it with the checkbox enabled, nonetheless? Just for the sake of experimenting. It might give a hint at where to look for bug-fixing.

same issue if i turn recently added on with merge enabled

Thanks for testing that!
I will pass it on to the devs.

Do you see any chance to test it without KMSpico being in play?

yeah i disabled it same issue

I don’t know how you did that. It might be that KMSpico itself was disabled, but the sqlite server it brought with it was still active.
You might want to completely uninstall it, to be on the safe side.

ok just ask the devs about the recently added issue please; if kms was the issue it would be all the library’s

so no more help?

Edit all the pinned libraries,
on the Advanced tab, make sure that none of them had it’s Visibility disabled.

yeah none are ; the issue is atm that i can enble recently added to the 3 library’s if its checked the recommended stop working

I am also seeing the same issue, the “Recently Added” section of my TV type libraries is missing and the Recommended tab is showing an unexpected error when going to it. My Roku client also shows these sections missing. Unchecking the “Recently Added TV” box under Manage Recommendations does allow the tab to work again, so it seems to be specific to that. Hopefully there is a way to fix it via the database or new update.

OS: Unraid 6.9.2
Server Version: 1.23.2.4656
Web Client: 4.57.4

Same issue here. I’ve got 5 TV libraries and 5 Movie libraries, one of the TV ones is affected, the rest are fine. It doesn’t show on the home screen even though it’s enabled to be there, and Recommended doesn’t work unless “Recently Added TV” is unchecked. All others are selected. I ran the installer in Repair mode and rebooted the machine, but still have the issue.

OS: Windows Server 2019
Server Version: 1.23.2.4656
Web Client Version: 4.58.1

I can confirm on my side that I am also getting “Something went wrong, an unexpected error occured”.

I have tested on iOS, iPadOS and Apple TV 4K, and Plex Web using chrome browser logged in as one of my shared home users. All of those has the missing “Recently added in TV Shows” on the main Home screen.
Going straight into the TV Shows, I can successfully view the “Library” section, however the recommended section is the affected one, as it does the infinite “loading” cycle and never shows up on any of the streaming devices. While on Plex web, it shows the message “Something went wrong”.

Only my users (shared home users) are affected, while me (the owner of the server) runs perfectly normal.

This behavior occurred with the latest plex media server update, I cannot pinpoint which exact update it triggered it, but I can say the last time my kid successfully viewed the home screen for recently added tv show was around PMS version 1.22.3.4392 (its unrelated, as smart collection is the culprit, the followup post explains it more).

PMS version: 1.23.2.4656
OS: Ubuntu headless LTS 20.04

Using plex’s official rep for updates (non-beta versions).

EDIT:
Devices Plex version are as follows:

iPadOS: 7.18
iOS: 7.18
Apple TV 4K: 7.17 (1424)
Plex Local web player: 4.57.4

EDIT2:

I’m using smart collections to also customize my home screen (things like Kids Movies with smart collection using labels, and “My top Favorite TV Shows” and pinning them to home).

When doing your steps above in removing and re-adding, I can see that everytime I uncheck and re-check, I am duplicating the home item.
i.e. removing “Movies Leaving Plex” smart collection from home and re-pinning it would duplicate it and shows them as double items.

Don’t know if its related or not, but will try to remove my smart collections and see if this affects the recommended/home screen tab of TV Shows or not.

Only TV Shows is the affected one, my movies section works good for my users.

Do your managed users have any age restrictions set up for them?

What happens if you remove all smart collections from both the home page and the recommended pages?

I have found the root problem for myself. I hope everyone can confirm if it also is affecting them.

The smart collection was the culprit.

Only my users are affected by it, not me.

And Only the TV Shows section, not Movies (cannot find why tv shows only).

When using smart collection, open Plex web player → goto TV Shows → Collections tab —> press the 3 dots for a list down menu —> Visible on: remove/untick the “Shared users home”.

Removing only TV Shows collection from shared users home fixed my problem.

No age restrictions, I should’ve included that i’m using “Labels” to share the media, I only have 1 TV Shows folder, and 1 Movies folder. I share my media with “Labels” to my kids.

@OttoKerner Are there any plans for an update for this problem? It kinda breaks the usability of smart collections when doing custom “Home” shows.

For my personal use, it helps me track what my kids can see.

I think it will be solved in PMS v 1.23.5.xxx

Just a quick test on my side with shared users.

Using smart collection (only on tv shows), if I press the 3 dots on my smart collection and enabled “Visible on —> Library” it will break the TV Shows being shown on Home screen (shared users only) and breaks its recommended tab inside tv shows for all shared users.

If I disabled “Visible on —> Library”, and enabled “Home” and “Shared Users Home”, the TV Shows will not be shown for my users on Home screen, but the recommended tab works inside users’ TV Shows section.

Only option is to disable both “Shared Users Home” and “Library” and can only enable my own “Home” visibility, this way I can see my own smart collection on my Home screen, but the users cannot see it on their Home screen, but at least they can see the normal TV Shows on their Home screen.

Thought I’d mention this and hopefully narrows down the problem.

Thanks for the update!

PS: What exactly does “Visibility on → Library” do? It feels like a hit or miss situation on my side. I assumed it shows the smart collection on my Library, but there’s already another function for that under the TV Shows library edit to include/disable collection showing in library.
