Server Version#: most recent
Player Version#:FireTV
I feel stupid for this question but there is something I am missing.
Had to reset my FireTV Cube and then reconfigure it. PLEX app was re-installed on the FireTV Cube but I cannot determine how to point it to my existing PLEX server inside the same building.
Have the IP address and all of the other information but cannot determine how to configure the FireTV Cube.
Access to servers is determined by user account.
Which means you need to use the same plex.tv user account that claimed the server, to login the client(s).
I sort of assumed it was something like that.
Here are my notes regarding this info. Might be helpful for others that get confused.
PLEX Configuration
PLEX software is installed in the Fire Cube with the general notion that the Fire Cube user will sign up for a PLEX account – sort of another version of streaming.
https://plex.tv/link link provided on the TV screen to link account
You are now working with a workstation and its keyboard and browser software in combination with the data provided on the TV screen.
If the Fire Cube is unconfigured there is no ‘remembered’ PLEX account information in the Fire Cube. The temptation is to click on the ‘use Amazon’ account option. This will probably fail unless your credentials are the same for your Amazon and PLEX account. Instead look for the option to enter your existing PLEX account information – poke around and you will find it.
Enter your PLEX account registered email and associated account password
If the Fire Cube has been previously configured then there will be a ‘remembered’ PLEX account and all you need to do is enter the four digit code provided on the TV screen.
Alexa Configuration
This not part of the original concern but listed here to help if there is further confusion.
Alexa, the Amazon voice activated capability that is used concomitant with various devices like the DOT or Fire Cube, can receive verbal commands. The general command is
“Alexa, ask PLEX to play music/other from [author/playlist/etc.]”
Alexa needs to be enabled for the PLEX skill and associated PLEX commands. To accomplish that you must use the PLEX account name for the linkage when the skill is enabled to work properly. DO NOT use the PLEX registered email information.
