Recording Failed and How do I watch live TV?

I’m in the UK and have just got the HD Homerun connected. The firmware is the latest. I set a show to record in advance and it failed with an unknown error. I’ve set another show to record while it was already broadcasting and that appears to be working - but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to watch it or where the recording is going to. The settings on recording had it going to my TV Shows library but there’s nothing there. Also there’s nothing on my iPhone App that resembles anything to do with the DVR. What am I missing here?

While it is recording it goes to a temp transcoding directory, when it finishes recording it will move to the regular library folder.

On iOS open up the library list and Program Guide should be there. make sure you are running current version of server

Thanks Big Wheel. My plex server is the latest. There is nothing showing as programme guide in IOS on my phone.

Click the Menu icon (three lines in the upper right corner) and you should see this:

Halfway down you should see Recording Schedule and Program Guide.

Yeah, it’s not there. I have since discovered the fix was to log out of the IOS app and log back in. It’s there now. So any idea why the recording didn’t work?

Would need to see the logs if you still have them from when it was recording to try to figure out why it failed. did it error out as soon as you hit record or you saw the failed error later on when you checked on it.?

I think the error popped up as it started recording. It was set to record in advance. I can watch live on the phone now, so there is some progress. Would you say it’s too flakey to trust to record every episode of a series?

I take it that it will not yet work on apple tv?

Assuming you are talking about Plex Live TV, it only runs on iOS and Android TV devices.

yeah Live Tv doesn’t work on Apple TV yet but it is being worked on.> @webstereo said:

it is beta and still has issues. I would keep an eye on it.

Thanks all. I haven’t been able to record anything that is being broadcast in 5.1 on freeview yet. Does it actually capture 5.1 dolby digital?

@webstereo I’ve recorded a few things in 5.1, and yes it does in Australia, so I’d be fairly confident that if that’s what it’s broadcast in, that’s what it’ll be captured as.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be the case. I recorded something from channel 4 last night. I’m still running my Humax Set Top Box so I have it recorded there too. The run up to the show I recorded was 2.0 but the show itself is 5.1. This was successfully captured by the Humax.
However, the plex recording, via the homerun connect shows (confirmed by the receiver display) only 2.0 throughout. I’ve also checked it with VLC and that doesn’t show 5.1. So it would seem it does not capture freeview here in that way.
Unless there is something I can do to correct that?

@webstereo Ahh… this is the case where the number of audio channels changes during broadcast. If you’d started the capture with 5.1, it’d be 5.1, but as it is, I think it works off what is starts with. Plex are aware of this, but I don’t have any idea on any progress on it, I’m afraid. It is on the radar though!

Really? This is impossible to avoid here. Not everything is 5.1. In fact most (id not all) commercial breaks are 2.0 so pretty much every 5.1 show starts off with 2.0. What a nuisance. Looks like I have to keep the set top box DVR running for now then.
