Recording from locast.org

So I’ve been using Plex for quite a while. It’s so awesome that I went ahead and got the lifetime PlexPass. I’ve been slowly trying to cut the cord, but my wife insists that we need to be able to record Young & the Restless.

Up until today, that meant cable, satellite or a streaming TV service. I went with YoutubeTV.

But today I stumbled upon locast.org. There’s a Roku app and web players, but I haven’t found any Plex plugin for it. She works during the day, so without recording, it’s kind of useless for my needs.

Anyone have any idea if there’s a way to record from locast.org?

My mom gets her Y&R fix from plex via my hdhomerun tuner and an antenna in my attic.

also your link is wrong. it should be https://www.locast.org/ (no W)

it would be great if plex partnered with locast, but there isn’t any support for locast currently.

and since plugins have been disabled, there isn’t any way for someone to try to implement it outside of plex.

Unfortunately I’m too far out to use an antenna. I purchased an antenna and an hdhomerun. But I could ONLY get the local PBS channel. No ABC, NBC or CBS.

I’ll just hope that Plex partners with locast.

bummer. youtubetv is a good, albeit increasingly more expensive service.

I just read they are adding pbs channels soon.

googling a bit, I found @ https://www.reddit.com/r/FitzyTV/comments/anfd3n/locast_issues_with_fitzytv/

I never heard of fitzy, but from first glance might be able to dvr locast, but it also looks like locast is ‘requiring’ donation for uninterrupted streaming, and I assume that fitsy itself isn’t free.

Well that sucks. A required donation is no longer a donation. If I like a service, I pay for it, but I’m not a fan of forced donations.

Since it is only that one show, why not just subscribe to that one network? I think it’s on CBS, so you can get CBS All Access for around $5/mo and access the entire catalog of the show including the latest episodes. That’s a lot cheaper than YouTubeTV.

Hi all, I’m new to the Plex Forums and not really sure how to submit ideas to the Plex development team (If you can), but I am much in the same boat where I can’t receive consistent antenna coverage in my area and would LOVE to leverage the Locast service through some sort of cloud DVR service.

FitzyTV (a low-cost cloud DVR service for various TV providers) can pull in feeds from Locast provided that you’re a Locast donor (Otherwise the incoming feed is intermittently interrupted with donation requests), but the FitzyTV app is only available on Android based platforms and has no Roku app or even website implementation. I would love to have local channels within Plex alongside the rest of my media instead of separate apps.

I can’t stress enough how much of a game changer this would be for cord-cutters if Plex supported this. Imagine being able to immediately integrate with local broadcasts in your area with the purchase of a Plex Pass, no antenna needed!

A little late to this discussion, but another option for Y&R and many tv shows is Playon https://www.playon.tv/ . CBS and other networks put their shows on the web the next day, and I have Playon on my desktop pc automatically record shows to my MyCloud drive, and watch them using Plex. Playon desktop is on sale right now for $20. Works great, and no monthly subscription.
